Tube not glowing

Post by sidefx »

I'm a new user of the Extreme. Purchased it used a couple weeks ago. Thought for sure the tube was glowing blue when power was on but now only a faint red light is visible. This can only be seen if the room is totally dark. Is my tube bad? When should it glow? Pressing the Valve Force button doesn't make any difference. I've read previous posts which say it should last 10 or more years and not easily changed... Thanks for the reply

faint red glowing is the tube filament heater which should always be present when the unit is on

When you press the valve force button, then the blue LED backligt should energize indicating its' applied to the signal. The tube has nothing to do with the blue light, it's just an indicator that tube preamp (or post amp depending on how you look at it) is applied

If the backlight doesn't come on when the valveforce button is pressed, there is a problem

Tube Not Glowing

Post by Auditory »

The Blue LED in my TE usually lights up when I first turn it on, then it begins to flicker and dies. However, it SEEMS that the Valve Force circutry is working, but its effect is so subtle I'm never really sure. Since I bought a used instrument I'm also not sure how this is suspose to work, but what I'm understanding from this thread is that the LED Glows when the Valve Force button is pressed and if it doesn't there's a problem. I can also tell you I don't see even the faintest glow in the tube, but it seems there's some debate here as to whether the tube has a faint red glow or not. This leads me to a few questions:

1) Is it possible my LED circut is bad yet the Valve Force circut is working?
2) Is it also possible the LED is intermittent because the tube is bad?
3) How do I check this all out?

I'd really like to see a glowing blue light in my instrument and hear a dynamic Valve Force effect...

Thanks

Hiya,

To test the Valve Force if it's working (even though the blue LED is not on), simple turn the Valve Force button on and try to adjust the knobs like the Tube Gain or the Output Level. If you hear the changes, that means your Tube is working properly. The blue LED (for me), is just for artistic/ cosmetic effect and/ or serves as a quick glance to let you know if the Valve is being turn on or off.
