I am trying to populate my first songbook on my Korg PA 700. It shouldn’t be very complicated. My idea was to import all the midi files into the songbook. 90% of the files will be just playing a piano. There’s a few others like Newfie songs where I want a piano accordion split! I don’t actually see in the software were you specify which instrument is associated with the song. It should be fairly obvious, but I don’t see it.
I have borrowed a PC laptop, downloaded the software, installed it, I have hooked up the USB wire, I have copied over that is saved or imported whatever it’s called all my almost 500 files from my SD card, and I see them on the PC software. The next step is saving.
I can’t figure out where or how, I should save the songbook. Shall I save it back to the SD card? Or to the internal disk of the PA 700? Unfortunately, I won’t be saving it to the laptop because I’ll be returning that laptop to the rightful owner. I logically would like to save it to a dedicated USB drive, but I can’t see the USB drive because the SD drive is activated at the moment.
Unfortunately, the one person I talk to about Korg problems is busy today! I can’t call the music store because I bought the thing privately.
Is there anyone out there who actually likes to talk about Korg things? If so, perhaps you could PM me a phone number. Hopefully in English likely in North America. Canada even!

Too far away to phone. Save to internal disk. Data on internal disk can then be copied to USB. Assume the reason you borrowed a Lap Top is because to hook up a Desk Top is not on. The information / data can be saved on USB and transferred between DeskTop & Pa700.... Try setting up a small Songbook first and SAVEALL as a SET till you get used to songbook / sets etc.

Would it be true to say that you put your midi files into the songbook, save the songbook, and then create sets out of the songbook? I haven’t even been able to figure that out.

Based on your posting, it can be assumed that you totally have misunderstood the principle of the Korg songbook and it is therefore not surprising if you have problems with it the first time.

The songbook is a database and only stores information about the settings you want to use to play your songs. These informations include the locations and data device where their musical resources (MIDI, MP3, Style) are memorized. Locations can be DISK, SD, Internal Memory or a USB device. If DISK or SD is selected for this, these device must be connected to the PC with ENABLE (in Media Menu).

You cannot import, insert, copy or save MIDIs, MP3s or Styles into the songbook itself. These data must be located either in the memory, on DISK (KORG DISK) on a USB device or on the SD card. The songbook itself only contains a link to the song and informations about you edited: song number, artist, title, genre, key, tempo, and meter (time signature) of a specified song.

Later, when choosing one of the Entries to play, the associated Style, MIDI or MP3 Song – as well as the Style Play or Song Play mode – is automatically recalled.

What you meant by "Import" is simply the transfer of information about a resource with which an entry is written into the songbook. However, the resource remains on the original data location, because only a link to the resource is created in the songbook.

When you have created and edited a songbook on the PC with the software, it is to SAVE in the "File" menu using "Save As".

Since a songbook can only be saved in a set with the software, it is advantageous to create a folder for it (on PC) and name it with the file type ".set", e.g. "MySongbook.set". After "Save As", this set contains a songbook that can be transferred from the PC to DISK or SD, provided that these are connected to the PC with "Enable".

The set can also be copied to a USB device that you connect to the USB host on the Pa700.

Now the songbook of your set you can loaded from your data storage devices into the memory with LOAD.

Data that is actually stored in the songbook are parameters of the four keyboard sets, voice & guitar presets and pads.

Yeah - it's the terminology that seems to be designed to trip us up.
With midi files you never import or load, you copy or navigate to them via Player 1 to play them.
As siebenhirter said just copy your midis to a folder on your HD I think is best (call it something like MyMidis), Navigate to a midi via Player 1 - then you can make a Songbook entry for that song.
Also remember that Saving sets only saves the locations and settings not the actual midis - so occasionally back up your midis by copying them to a USB drive.
I see you are from Gananoque - my wife and I spent a couple of lovely days there at a B&B and visited the little pub (with live music) and toured the thousand islands. It was also the coldest I think I have ever been!! (Australian used to too much sunshine!)

Insert USB Stick -> Press MEDIA -> Select USB -> Copy -> select midi file -> Copy to -> Now change from USB to DISK -> Top R H Corner press -> Select " Create New Folder -> My Midi Files or What ever you like -> follow instructions -> Open -> Copy......Go to Song Play -> Select Song -> Open Disk -> Find file you just created -> select midi.... Below MODE on PA is PLAYER, Hit Start midi should play.... Press Song book -> Write ( bottom tab ) -> NewSong -> enter Name -> OK ,,,1 song now in Song book. There are really good videos on how to do this the KORG Web pages....
