Sorry to ask, but...

A friend has gifted me a Korg 01/W and I really only want to use it as a keyboard [sorry ] it had no manual with it so I'm groping in the dark.
I hoped to use earphones to avoid disturbing neighbors, but although I can power it up and get screen readings I'm at a loss to make audible sounds.

I realize the 01/W is a serious instrument but can someone coach me how to bring it to life?

I found the online manual but it so quickly descends into "music-speak" that my eyes glaze over.

Any tutorials would be welcome. :(

Is there any sound through connected headphones when the keyboard is played? The headphones need to have a 1/4" stereo jack plug that is fully inserted in to the headphone jack socket. Try wiggling the jack plug and removing and reinserting it a few times, in case oxidation has built up on the contacts. The Master Volume slider needs to be moved up at around 25 to 50% of its travel. Also check that, in Global mode the MIDI Global parameter is not set to Local OFF.

When the 01/W has powered up, does the screen display a Program or Combi name, and does that change when the up down key is pressed.?

I tested the phones and they are working but nothing when jacked into the Korg.

The screen lights up and, indeed does change with the up/down button.

Is there a "standard" setting I can default to in some way?

Try connecting the headphones to one of the output jacks 1 or 2 to see what happens.

Did you check the Global MIDI parameter is set to Local ON, and the MIDI channel is set to 01.

Do the Programs and Combis change according to the names given in the Voice Name List, when the up/down buttons are pressed?
