I can't for the life of me figure out what KAOSS is all about.
How is it used and for what purpose.

I posted this a few weeks ago which you can see if you scroll down a bit.

"Hi all

At the moment I am trying to delve deeper into my Pa4X, after all it is about time that I did. Regarding the KAOSS effects I have never used it. Just wondering if you guys use it and what do you think. Don’t see it mentioned much in the forums.

I am learning to edit styles and songbook entries, one day at a time. Could the KAOSS effects be of use to this project ??? But again what do you guys use it for ???

Thanks, trying to learn more about the Pa4X. Spent years just playing and enjoying it."

Not one single reply, not even a courtesy reply. So I came to the conclusion that no one uses it. An unnecessary addition to the Pa4x. I hope you have more luck than I did. Not nice to receive nil replies.

Good luck

It is "very interesting FX".
I found the key is to just mess around with it - you can get some absolutely incredible results not only with sounds but also styles.

Just have a play with it.... try some of the presets...

Cheers

This is rather toy, not usable especially during performance.

But it is good weapon for sellers who presents to future owner this wonderfull keyboard

Used effectively, it is way beyond a toy. I think it is definitely something regular arranger players would not expect to have access to.
Most "sellers" have enough trouble demonstrating an arranger, let alone something like Kaoss.

As I said, give it a good try - it is quite incredible - will add the unexpected to any performance.

Play with it, try it, enjoy it (just my personal view)

Well I use kaoss alot specifically "Rhythm-Rig & Halo" to bring an extra dimension to a style during a performance, say with a key change when engaging Kaoss and as Pete has said you have to experiment with this, it doesn't work for all styles but so far I'm impressed and would not be without it...also I would have no problem using it (Rhythm-Rig & Halo) in a live performance :)

Note: Pressing SHIFT and SCREEN will hold this function .

You can record kaoss in sequencer quick record mode. Ive used it for the tripletizer, and the tape stop (trick is to record at either double time or close to it ir half time

The two things I’ve heard Kaoss do that seems pretty useful is the ability to impart a bit of swing into a straight beat style, and the ability to gradually pare back or build up the parts in a style (at least, that’s what I thought was going on!).

In fact both those functions are so useful, it’s a shame they are buried inside the Kaoss stuff and not given dedicated pages in the normal OS. Probably the number of us doing EDM are few and far between, but most of us old-timers can remember the ‘swing’ knob on old arrangers and drum machines, and many of us played arrangers that offered buttons that gradually removed Parts or added them.

These are MUSICAL functions, things that real musicians do… things that are usable on a daily basis. It’s a shame they are somewhat disguised and buried in the Kaoss screen…

Yes, every kaoss parameter should also be assignable to sliders, joystick and paddles..

But also the other way around..
