Possible to connect a phone in the Host USB port of PA700?
Is it possible to connect a phone via the host port, ie to use the phone as a storage device? I just want to copy MP3s to the phone storage, not to use it for MIDI.
I know I can copy them to USB stick, then onto PC or whatever, was just hoping there was a more direct way.
I could just go ahead and plug it in, I'm just worried the phone or the Korg will be adversely affected.

I am not sure that the PA700 will see the phones as an external drive.
I remember plugging my iPhone with a USB cable to charge it and there were not problems at all. In fact, I have plugged a lot of different things into the USB port and used it for charging things.
Your best bet is to use a Flash drive, or install a MicroSD card into the back of the unit (you need to remove the small panel where you install the CR2032 battery) in there and then hook your PA700 up to your computer and transfer the MP3 files that you want to the MicroSD card.
That is what I have done with mine. I have a 16 Gb MicroSD card in the back of mine and it works very well. I also save my sequences (well over 300 so far) and other files on that card. I have NEVER had an issue with using the MicroSD. I believe you can go up to 32 Gb and maybe even higher. I have tried anything larger than a 32 Gb MicroSD card in it yet, so I cannot verify of anything larger works.
I do use the PA700 to make MP3 copies of different songs, but I always save them to a flash drive so I can manipulate them on my computer. I can also save them to the MicroSD card as well if I wanted to.
Grace,
Harry

Korg PA700 - connecting PC
This seems like the perfect solution, if I could get it to work for me.Musicwithharry wrote:I am not sure that the PA700 will see the phones as an external drive.

I've installed a MicroSD card, formatted it, and copied some files from the internal Korg disk to the card.
I installed the latest USB drivers from Korg.
Then I connected the Korg PA700 to the PC, using a USB-A to USB-B cable, going into the Device port on the Korg.
I was hoping when I connected the cable, the PC would see the MicroSD card as an exterior storage device, and so I could copy between the two, which is my ultimate goal.
But so far I'm seeing nothing in Windows Explorer when I connect. Connecting did trigger the final step of the driver install, so it does recognise it as a connected device, but for MIDI, which is not what I want.
Am I missing a step?
thanks

After you have hooked up the cable and turned both the PC and the keyboard on. Hit the Media button (left of the screen itself).
On the screen, after hitting the Media button, you will see a bunch of tabs along the bottom of the screen. The right-most tab should be labeled 'USB'. Tap on that and you will bring up a screen that allows you to enable/disable the USB. You can also select what you want the PC to see through the USB connection. It is there that you can select the 'Korg Disk' or the SD card. Select which one you want to see on the PC and then hit Enable.
You will not be able to do anything else with the board while you are in USB mode, but at least you will be able to send/receive files from the Korg and PC.

Harry

Although, for anyone else who is following these steps, would I be right in saying that you could connect the Korg to your PC using this method, without having to install an SD card?
But in any case, it's good to have the SD card in there as a backup.
thanks again

The Korg Disk does not have a lot of room (I believe, around 1 Gb of storage) and frankly, I treat my keyboard like a computer when it comes to system files and such. I like to not have much on the 'Korg Disk' at all and I like to store most of my stuff on the MicroSD drive.
The only real time that I have needed to interface with my PC was when I was moving from an 8 Gb MicroSD to the 16 Gb MicroSD card. I then hooked my PA700 up to my computer so I could copy EVERYTHING over from the PA700 to a temp folder on the PC. Once I put the 16 Gb card in, I simply copied all the data back over to the new drive, from the PC.
Since there is not much you can do on the PA700 when it is in USB Mode, there is little need for me to really use that mode, except for the time I described above. The PA700 is not a USB Audio Interface and so the USB connection is really for file transfers...

Re: Korg PA700 - connecting PC
I don't use the Korg live. It's for composing backing music and songs for radio productions, and for composing songs as a hobby. That requires copying tracks to the PC for editing a lot. So your solution is perfect for me. Thanks againMusicwithharry wrote:
