Keys are more noisy than others & have to strike harder

Hi, I haven't posted in a long time. My set of keys in the middle C area are less responsive & noisy when I strike them. How do I fix this? Any tutorials?

Keyboards that exhibit noise etc. in the areas that are played the most usually have wear in that area. One of the first things to wear is felts. I looked at an 88 note K that had a very worn felt under the keybed. It was the felt that stops the key weight. Eventually, that weight can begin to cut through the felt and then it stops more suddenly as it is now being stopped with the metal frame. This makes noise.

I would suggest that key weight stop felt is worn which can be verified by taking the bottom off and looking at it. A replacement may be available from Parts is Parts.

Other wear can occur in the keys and weights themselves but I've not encountered it with a Kronos. In general, a typical issue is lubrication going bad. It gets displaced over time and can cause sticking keys or sluggish response.

Wear in the contacts can cause keys to not respond properly such as playing too soft or too loud.

I don´t know what kind of noise you hear, but in my experience with the 73, you should check the gap between the keys and the front bar of the keyboard. Use the spacers that come with the RH3 keyboard, or a credit card will do. The long bar tend to bend slighty on the middle. The gap should be the same all along. Try to pull it out a bit, hold it and check if the sound remains. If not you should loosen the bolts under the keybed and push it a little back. From what I hear the felt tips wear out fairly easily but I have not had any problem yet.

Same here. This is interesting. I am on 7 years on my K88. I don't believe my felts are worn out. Its possible my K88 has ' low mileage'.

Korg', as we know from 7 yrs ago had a big Snafu on defective felts on a 'run ' of Kroni'. That whole mess resulted in the Kronos "X " model.

I have read some cases recently where 1 or 2 owners are finally dealing with their defective felt problem on their old K.
