Korg Kronos w/CME WIDI Bud. Will it work?

Post by EnjoyRC »

I was wondering if you could plug the CME WIDI Bud USB adapter into the Kronos and receive Bluetooth MIDI?

Haven't tried that, but the wired version of the Xkey works.

Often when the device USB specs mention "no drivers needed", then it is class compliant, which means it should work with the Kronos. Don't take my word for it though ;)

Love my Xkey plugged into my Kronos. I was hoping to go wireless and let an alternate musician on the stage play the Xkey for a synth bass part.

Does the polyphonic Aftertouch work?

it's unlikely to work as there does not seem to be any hardware pairing button on the dongle and it's not going to work without pairing and some os support.

I tried a regular bt-4.0 dongle on kronos to no avail.

Even if CME advertises this part as a Bluetooth dongle for their own keyboards, it is actually a general Bluetooth MIDI (BLE-MIDI) dongle to connect any BLE-MIDI devices to any computer / tablet / smartphone. The point is, that the WIDI Bud the USB-plugged device pretends thomann that it is a standard USB-MIDI device. The standard USB Class driver, which is available on practically all platforms, is used.
For a one-time pairing with a BLE-MIDI device you need the WIDI PLUS software. Once you have done this, the dongle remembers the pairing and from thomann there the dongle also works in devices with USB port, on which WIDI PLUS is not running, eg under Linux or at the BomeBox.
Small Wermutstropfen is that the WIDI Bud can connect only with a BLE-MIDI device.

Have you done anything with the Polyphonic aftertouch when using the wired connection? Does it work?
