A Messterpiece in Progress!

Post by jeremykeys »

This is for the Prog people pretty much only. If you don't like long self indulgent songs then you're probably going to hate this. Although I personally really like my Hammond emulation a lot. It's unfinished but I tend to like to let people hear my stuff as it goes along. It's kinda my thing, ya know? Check for the Gentle Giantish bit about 3/4's of the way through. And yes it is a long song.

The title will change to as it's just a working title.

Hope you like what I'm up to.

I like the synth solo at the 3:20 mark and the Hammond works nicely. Good work, enjoying it so far.

Was this all done on the Kronos?

I'm not quite sure the bass feels quite right in the mix though, though that's just my humble opinion.

Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed listening and my wife let me play it to end (in bed with early morning cuppa) without the usual 'put the headphones on' comment. Will be interested to hear new versions. I see what you mean about the Hammond and GG bits but I like the bass bite and guitar solo near the end just as much.
Richard Thomas. In order of appearance:
Roland HP1700, Roland SC55, Bohemia Acoustic, Alesis QS8, RME Babyface, REAPER, Kronos 2-88, RME Digiface USB.
Given up trying to play them, now I just play with them.

Some nice parts in there. Like SeedyLee, I like the solo at 3:20 and I like the vibe from 9:40 on. Keep up the good work.

Are the keys all Kronos, or have you used other toys?

PS: It's not that long: I have a 26 minute long song in my arsenal!

After many years in a Pink Floyd tribute band, I have an itch that I need to scratch to do original material again, so hope to get creative soon!

The synth parts at the 8:20 mark are all soft synths in my Cubase 7.5.4 DAW. The Mellotron sound is from my King Korg. Choirs and synth leads are Kronos. The organ is one of my own programs on my Kronos. The bass is my Ibanez 5 String. 12 string acoustic is a Norman. The guitar in the Gentle Giantish part is my Epiphone Studio Dot. Before that, the electric is my Ibanez cheap Les Paul Copy. The guitar after the Giant part is my Ibanez RG. The heavy guitar sounds come form my Zoom G1xNext pedal. All other guitar amp sounds come from the Amp Sims in Cubase as well as the amp sim for my bass. Vocals start with my cheap Apex 435 large diaphrgm condenser going through my Behringer steroe tube pre-amp, into my PResonus Studiolive 16.4.2 and then into Cubase.

That's for all the gear heads out there! I'm working on the song again right now so I hope to be reposting it on Soundcloud later tonight.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

I ended up not doing as much as I would have liked to. I had to do chores around the house.
But this is the latest with more pedantic lyrics! And I pushed up the King Korg Mellotron strings in the mix too.

Have another listen if you like, and if you do like it, please click on the little heart for me. I get very lonely and nobody loves me. :-({|= :wacky:

Having had another listen I realize that the Mellotron strings have to go back to the level they were at first. Oh well. Live and learn!
