I have seen people talking a bit about a 'big' E2 announcement coming soon from Korg. Any one here got some more insider info they care to share?

Oh, Hang on!....

Perhaps they're going to reply to an email I sent them earlier in the year asking when the ES2 was going to be released in UK.
They are extremely quiet on everything so I can't imagine there's any big announcement they'd ever make.
Let me know if they make it.

At this point probably best if people just accept the E2 is likely all it's going to be and get on with things.

If they ever do another updats at least then you're pleasantly surprised after enjoying your E2 happily for months. Otherwise you stand to ultimately be disappointed after months of waiting for nothing. Possibly.

Yeah, the E2 as of 1.10 is really awesome imo. However I do use a volca sample to help with the live mix aspect between tracks.

Depending on how I get on with this set up I may buy an ES2 and then have a complete set up.

The E2 for all it's small faults or possible improvements, sounds amazing and I will happily put ableton and my laptop aside while I work hard on an actual live set

I'm loving my ES2. I'm a "hobbyist" so only get to use it for any great length at weekends. The more I play with it and read tips here the more depth I find.
I bought it as I actually wanted a drum maching (rather than programme beats in my DAW - Ableton) and as I have loads of drum samples it fitted the bill nicely.
I'm actually doing more than that with it and loading single cycles samples from various random sources turns it into a funny little synth if you stick the modulators on. And the "scale" modes means I can't play a bum note

There will blatantly be another update. To my mind this is because of the hack.

If Korg are not happy about it they will release an update which will stop the hack but offer a couple of features. Most likely the transpose effect, and a marginal improvement to pattern switching and some bug fixes.

If they are happy to let us swap firmwares they will offer a more elegant method which also works properly for owners of the es2, plus a couple of features.


The music market has heated up immensely in recent months with releases from Roland, Yamaha and Novation offering new products that are within the price range of the electribe, so Korg will want to remain competitive.

KOrg would actually have to give a damn. Chances are, they don't. Yeah we had a famous guy play as if the hack ruined everyone's day at Korg...bla bla bla. I could see an update happening to stop the hack but it's really got to be something special. Many people with great success with the hack are not letting that feature go. It's kind of nice to be able to dual boot your Tribe to what ever you need it to be. Korg knows this.
Big companies have other things to worry about. Is it really worth the trouble?

That's never going to be the case. I'm going to go with "Korg is NOT happy with the swap" but doesn't really care because it's not worth the trouble.

If Korg actually cared about this sort of thing then they would have done SO MUCH better with communicating with customers, have a slick marketing plan, hell where are the Korg only videos? The Novation intro video to the circuit could have been the Korg Electribe video. Korg literally "dumped the bed" on this one.

I believe there will be another update, but I see that being a few years down the road from now, not with such immediacy as " 'Big' E2 announcement coming soon from Korg".

My initial question is where exactly did o.w.t.m see or read this? Please provide links. Is this announcement suppose to come in a few days?

Because, to me, non of this is real until someone can provide some evidence.

Hoping for a meaningful update, would be interested to know where the rumor came from.

It is an oddly disappointing box. Sort of opposite anything I've ever owned. Most stuff you figure out is "more" once you dig in. Once I dug into this one I just got frustrated with missing stuff that I had assumed would be there. For me those features are the song mode and sequencer. Easily fixed if they choose to.

The omission of really standard stuff like copying/transposing/moving notes in a pattern is baffling.

I really don't want to have to play in 4 bars of a simple 4-step hihat loop.
I should really be able to enter a single bass kick and then say "fill the rest of the part with this"
It really shouldn't be off limits to transpose some notes.

Simple stuff like that has been available on electribes and other grooveboxes for over 25 years, there really isn't any reason not to implement it besides "we couldn't be arsed to do it right".

I have found that when I create simple loops for beats and rhythms in a 1 bar pattern and then change the pattern length to 4 bars, all of those recorded 1 bar loops are automatically copied over to the other 3 bars.

That trick only works once, *if* you haven't increased the length of the pattern before.
It's useless when you're working in a 2/3/4 bar pattern already, unless you're going to do it in an empty pattern and then copy that part to the pattern you want to have it in, which is unnecessarily cumbersome...
