The OS is very sloppy. All it took is changing 3 bytes in the first few identification lines that differ between the OS. You're basically telling your E2 you load a perfectly fine E2 OS, but its the E2S OS instead.

This was actually suggested months ago, just noone (me included) had the balls to try it.

EDIT: See subsequent posts for which number oscillator slot to start loading.

Korg: a unifed OS or a "hold shift on startup" to load the other unit's OS would be great, and you could do it with no errors. It would ease the buyer confusion on these units and would probably sell more. Please keep developing new features, fixes and cool surprises - if you build it they will come.

If the ES2 hack firmware is the E2 code made to look like the ES2 then it could still contain some references to E2 sounds somewhere and cause the error. Would it make a difference if it were done the other way around? So ES2 file edited so that it loads on E2, rather than the E2 file edited to look like ES2. Or maybe I'm talking complete nonsense.

All your questions will be answered tonight. To put samples on it the good way, use electribesamplereditor.
And remember that you have to save bc it is a sampler so the next time you power it up the samples are still there. Like in any sampler, mpc, esx1, sp, mv8000, s1000, mc909, rs7000, octatrack etc...

Past Korg gear: Es-1 mk1 (modded), Er-1 mk2, Ea-1 mk1, Esx-1, Emx-1, Kp3, Korg Em-1 (double switch mod and Moog knobs), Volca Beats with Midi Out Mod and Snare Fix Mod, Volca Keys, Volca Bass, Volca Sample, Monotron Delay

Anyone had success with the "export all sample" function? I have no problem importing files created on the PC sample editor, but whenever I try to import a dump file created with the grey electribe it gives me an "unknown error" message.

It does not matter if you start loading on 501 or a higher slot like 511, the samples will mirror.

If you attempt to delete the duplicates, the normal 500-range samples you imported/recorded will vanish. So that's not a solution. And I'm not sure if deleting the files will affect the PCMs if you revert to the e2 OS, I have not tried it yet. (But I doubt it, the PCMs should be on protected ROM.)

If I had to guess I'd say the dormant e2 PCM index is being referenced and causing the error. But I think the duplicates are actually a duplicated refererence, not a copy of the sample. So it's not eating memory. If anyone else knows otherwise, chime in.

The sub-500 slots were off limits anyway, so ignoring those ghost files is a workaround. Despite this and other errors, the OS hack really does give you the sampler to play with.

It seems that you're okay if you just start at 523 onwards and avoid 501 to 522.

It also seems that when replacing the factory samples using the Electribe Sample Manager you need to avoid 320 onwards, otherwise you'll end up with empty slots that reference the ES2 patch names from 320 to 421.

You also get the reverse problem to the one above, and have duplicate entries in slots 506 to 522.

So, the rules seem to be...

Stick to 19-319 in the Factory slots, and stick to 523-999 in the User slots

guys, im trying to havfe anything covered on the tutorial, how many samples have you tried to import? it seems that some numbers are forbidden or something.

i only loaded some breakbeat to chop them, but it seems that this machine isnt done for that, hahaha, so i will load a bunch of copyright free drumkits for testing.

my breakbeats are working but with different names in the 356 to 367 and then all are from 501 to upper numbers.

I see James Pulen is on that Facebook group saying that Korg will be annoyed that this has happened right when they "are in the middle of announcing an updated OS".

He also said that an official swappable OS was already planned but they were waiting until all of the features have been added.

So to recap things the only issue at this point when going E2 to ES2 is that some of the slots will bear names from the E2 patches..? That's it? Thanks
