+1 - Pretty cool to read, isn't it?
Yes very interesting to see all these old synths, to be honest, I can't remember (so it is probably that way), I never played on a Moog myself (at least not an older one).

My first was a shiny new Arp 2600 back in the 70's. Man, do I wish I had that today!

I've owned a ton of gear, but coincidentally a Korg was my first. 01/w I bought second hand from a friend. First new purchase was a keyless Emu module.

edit: holy s*** I just remembered I had a Casio PT-50 when I was young. Damn, that brings back some memories. Makes me feel 12 again.

A Univox MiniKorg K1 I believe is what it was caled. Got it new in early 70's for about $325 - gave it to my neighbors kid who was just starting out - he had it until Katrina flood - wish I still did, it was extremely easy to use and sounded very good.

Korg X3

I had intended to buy a Yamaha home keyboard (PSR-something) but heard the Yamaha SY85 being discussed on the radio. I was then introduced to the Korg X3 by a friendly salesman and it was my main instrument for many years! It was a big step up in cost (3 times as much) but I don't regret it at all.

Jarre was the reason I began doing synths. So I had to start somewhere and Ended up with a Roland XP-30 with a vintage expansion board. It seemed not to be what I was looking for. The keys was very good though. Soon after I bought the Last Novation Supernova II Rack in norway for half the price of the original value. And it turned out to be exactly what I wanted. Regret selling the Supernova though. I don't miss the Roland much and I think it will be my last.

Mini Moog- sold it! After years of being without it, I ordered a Signature Series at the Launch of the Voyager. I will never part with this one. It's going to the grave with me!

All these 'modern' synths in this thread!
My very first 'real' synth (no laughing at the back) was a Jen SX1000. My first programmable was a Juno 60 - then I changed the Jen for a Realistic MG-1 Moogy thingy. Those were the days - gigging with the Juno and Realistic going through a home made amp and cab. :D

My first synth was a Univox Minikrog. Still own it. Bought her back in 1972.! I think it might be the same as a 700ORG. Not sure though. My first eletronic keyboard was something from Italy called an InstaPiano. It had about 61 keys, no velocity sensitivity and I think 4 sounds. All very cheesy but now that I'm older, probably very cool with some effects put on it.

Yamaha Cs01 monophonic analog synth with breath controller. Think it was $299. I still have it, but the modulation wheel has ceased to effect the output. Wonder if it could be fixed? Any synth techs here?

You know...I really have two answers. Technically, my first synth was a Dx7, so that's what I answered...but, the first synth I really got into sound design and programming was the Roland D70. After that, I really just wanted to emulate "real" instruments I couldn't afford--and you could do that better/cheaper with dedicated modules (then software).

I'm delving into the Kronos's HD1 engine now to sort of create a "best of digital" sound set.
