Yamaha already succeeded you guys didn’t the memo?
The Motif line is the biggest selling synth series of all times!
The Motif XF have outsold all it’s competitors and is the No.1 selling keyboard right now.
The Motif XF is a HUGH success!
Plus Yamaha got the fattest and warmest sound set of any synth rompler on the market.
I give Korg the bell & whistle winner trophy but their sound set still sucks thin and digital copyish sounding. That’s because they still include all those old compressed sounds from the past and cheap digital converters. You get that in all their rompler products. They tried to include an onboard tube in their toy products and the Triton extreme but it did no good, as they know they’re stuck with a sound set that sucks.
They need burr brown chips in all their converters.

You sound like foleycore from the motifator forums. Didn't you get banned yet troll?
The Intel Atoms CPUs are not outdated, the last ones was launched Q4-2010, and they (at 1.6Ghz) have similar performance than a P4 3.2Ghz (on one thread applications, on other they are surpased) and even better with applications with SMP (betwen 150%-200%), with only 1/2 of the power comsumption at idle and 1/5 at full load.
The Kronos does not run over a multipurpose OS like Windows, so all CPU power goes directly to it.
Also, and x86 CPU is far more powerfull than any CPU on other workstation like any Roland Fantom or Yamaha Motif.
For the info about the Atom-P4 comparison. look here (just blah blah without links, its blah blah)
Indeed, and it would be very funny to have some actual specifications for the CPU's in Roland Fantom, Yamaha Motif (or even Korg M3) for comparison.
There are modern jet fighters (I believe the latest generation of Russian Sukhoi Su-37) as well as combat helicopters that power their systems with Intel 486DX processors.
In a single-purpose application you choose a CPU on a lot of other criterias than speed alone.
Also, if the Kronos used an i7 processor, it would require a lot more cooling than the Atom. And fans make noise, not only audible noise but electronic noise as well. In a high-end audio application you'd like to minimize this.
The point is that the Kronos is what it is. It does what it does. And all this with the processor that it has. If it was just a simple matter of spending another $100 for a bigger CPU and that's all it takes to add new features, the competition would have done this already. Building a new synthesizer workstation is so much more than finding a good CPU.
..." There are modern jet fighters (I believe the latest generation of Russian Sukhoi Su-37) as well as combat helicopters that power their systems with Intel 486DX processors. ..."....
I understand now why we are loosing the WAR against the Taliban , 'cause the 486DX??...ohhhh nooooooooo ....The Russians are helping them support them and they are using i7 or AMD 6x Cores.....?? Oops
Atom is a joke in 2011 and Korg knows this but and I don't care if Korg need to put inside Kronos 2 or 3 fans to keep Kronos under 90 F but please, don't fool the customers, Thanks
Ehm..Genius, you know that the other workstations manufacturers (Yamaha, Roland etc. etc) use, equivalent processors which aren't nor Intel or AMD and they are named in a different way of course. FFS it's a workstation, not a PC where you have to play Crysis 2. I repeat, every company has used custom processors which weren't Intel or AMD, maybe they were also less powerful than the processors available at the time of the release of such workstations, so what the hell are you talking about? You're ridiculous, you know nothing. Stop make yourself an idiot and quit trolling.

KRONOS USE ATOM...HAHAHAHA ...2011 JOKE !! U$ 49 BUCKS ON EBAY 1.6 MHZ...WOW...FAST....9 SYNTH ENGINES WITH THAT HORSE??...DON'T THINKS SO ORIENTAL... YAMAHA IS THE BEST, WARM AND SWEET,

I would guess that the dual core ATOM processor is only being used for higher level tasks like the menu system, graphics interface and possibly static parameter settings. The synth engines should all be implemented in dedicated hardware.
In another life many years ago I introduced the Motorola MC14500B 1 bit processor running at 1khz to an incredulous group of 200 engineers. They all laughed until I showed them what that little beastie with 16 instructions could do for their industrial logic systems.

The main advantage of OASYS in its software upgradability was that it used a P4 processor which could easily just have the software changed out - unlike other hardware synths which have a fairly fixed architecture from their chips.
Similarly I get the impression from everything I've seen and read that the KRONOS does use an Atom dual core processor for everything - its sound engines and operating system.
I do not find this hard to believe, so why does everyone else?
Atom is rubbish at running windows, but this is not a windows computer. It is a synthesizer running a custom and very cut-down and efficient OS. Atom processors are currently very popular for embedded systems like this. They are also used in tills/kiosks and in industrial control, and many other applications.
The important point is (as others have mentioned) that this is in no way comparable to a PC. because it is not. The polyphony and engine specs are real. And you can't argue with that. It doesn't matter what processor is underneath, you're still getting this end result. If Korg had uses a faster processor it would have needed better (noisier or more delicate) cooling, the case may have had to be bigger, and it would have drawn more power, and it would have cost a lot more and not have been such a competitive product. But clearly it doesn't need it.
But I have absolutely no problem with the DSP being done on an Atom processor. It sounds good, doesn't it?
If it were running custom or other DSP chips for the sound engine processing, then the Atom would be overkill just for interface or OS duties.

The CPU is probably well balanced with the other KRONOS components anyway, and so works efficiently without any bottlenecks (week components) holding the others back.
The Atom dual cpu is probably MORE than enough TBH, since the CPU will perhaps be running low in most cases, and only draw high cpu usage when it needs it. In games like "Crysis" you mention, the Graohics card is king - not the cpu, which barely shifts. A balanced system - or keyboard in this case is the main requirement.

So now you deny the possibility that the Kronos even CAN produce high-quality sounds with its 9 synth engines because it "only" has an Atom processor?
Haven't you watched and listened to the demos?
You're a funny person to dicuss with, macalister!
You're so cute!! An absolutely adorable little troll. And you've really "come out of the closet" so to speak with your Yamaha background. It's nice that you like the synth that you have. But to attack the Kronos in a technical discussion about CPU power when you have a Motif isn't the best of ideas though.
What matters is the sound it makes and that you like the sound of your synth. The Motif is not a bad synth, but to argue that it's better than Kronos because Kronos uses an Intel Atom CPU (which we only have your word for so far - still looking for independent confirmation) while your Motif has a CPU that nobody knows what it is, is just plain foolish...
But you are very cute indeed!!

@ macalister: I don't understand why you are repeating yourself and are shouting like the roar of a lion. Shouting is viewed as a sign of weakness in many countries. I acknowledged your opinion, thank you!
I can also understand why you go green with envy. You don't need to explain it in this forum.
