this is done with the following steps:

- be sure that on the kronos in the global screen the local midi control checkbox is set to on, otherwise the notes won't be sent to your daw
- in cubase create 2 midi tracks
- on midi track 1 set the output to midi channel 1 and kronos keyboard as destination
- on midi track 2 set the input to kronos midi? (not sure what the name was) and set the midi channel to 2 (to avoid recording your long notes), also set the destination of that channel, for instance a VST like native instruments FM8 (or to nothing if you just want to record the notes)
- set your cursor in the inspector to midi track 1
- activate the record icon (the red one) on midi track 2

in the kronos be sure that the output of KARMA goes to midi channel 2

- now play your parts and press the record button in cubase (the general one)
- now the long notes will be recorded on midi track 1 and the KARMA output will be recorded to midi track 2

- After that you can do whatever you want, for instance humanize the karma notes on midi track 2 to create unique percussion or arp patterns, etc. Just like you are used to in cubase.

The fun part of this method is that you can use the KARMA notes for any synth you want, VST, AU or other hardware synths like the Virus TI for instance. You can even combine functions that way, for instance using KARMA notes in combination with the Virus TI Arp.

Personally i only use the KARMA notes as output for recording, i never use the Sysex or CC information, because you never know what they are going to do in the other synths. You can easely filter this information out on the KARMA midi filter page.

i never tried it, but i think it should work, as long as you use unique midi channels for that (like 2, 3, 4 and 5).

but since all information goes over one midi port then you have to set a midi filter in the cubase inspector that only allows notes from that channel to go through that track, so for instance you could use a midi insert that filters all notes on channels 1, 3-16 to record the channel 2 notes.

But thats theoretically, i never tried it, but that's the way cubase works.
My workflow is that i record parts seperately, so first the bass line, then the guitar part, etc...

I have songs on the kronos using both midi and audio tracks. Is it possible to port them over to Cubase easily and have everything go to the appropriate tracks in cubase? Both midi and audio? I realize that IFX won't be there but that's ok.

there are several ways to do this.

solution 1:
- export song to SMF and load that one in cubase
- then assign the sounds in cubase to each midi track (if you don't want to use the kronos anymore).
- The audio tracks could be recorded in cubase or exported from the kronos (by copying the wav files to usb and then to your computer).

solution 2:
- export song to SMF
- load it in cubase
- assign it to the kronos keyboard and select the song on the kronos.
- remove the midi information in the kronos song, so that you will only have the program assignments.
- check the timbres (midi channels) in cubase and song, to make sure that every channel has it's own midi timbre (which is for instance not the case when you copy a combi to a song).
- play the song from cubase


Solution 3:
- export the song to SMF
- create a combi where you assign the sounds
- export the audio wav files to cubase and import these in the audio pool
- play the song from cubase
