Why wouldn't you simply load the first two (completely new) banks to empty banks on your K?

Exactly. That's kind of a no-brainer, IMO.

The beauty of the Korg system is that you can audition the programs
from the .PCG file by clicking on them, without having to load them.

yes, that would for sure be the simplest way, indeed. Was thinking too complicated... However, doing that, you might miss out some new combi's then, that might refer to program banks I-A and I-B which would then contain the 'old' programs

That's true, but you can always load the new PCG entire to check them out and see if there is anything worth converting.

yes, Dan from Korg confirmed it several times on here. I believe it also might be in the promo video as well.

I can't find the exact post but, it has been 100% confirmed that existing Kronos users will be able to install the new OS.

Seems not everyone has seen the Korg US News page:

KRONOS System Version 3.0 for current KRONOS users

In conjunction with the release of KRONOS 2, KRONOS System Version 3.0 will be available for all the current KRONOS and KRONOS X users in early December 2014. This system can be downloaded free of charge and allows nearly all the functionality* of the new KRONOS, including the SGX-2 premium piano sound engine and the new set list screen.
* PCM data for the Berlin Piano is expected to be released in late January (price TBD)

EXs 19 KApro Private Collection, which is offered as a free download for KRONOS 2 customers, will be available early December for download from Korg.com for owners of KRONOS and KRONOS X at an introductory price of $49 through December 31, 2014 (usually $99).

I'm afraid it is not that simple ... the two banks are new, but if you compare the factory programs from the Kronos (X) with the new voice list, there are many more differences (in location wise at least).

Not sure where you got the info about a larger screen, it's the same as the original Kronos/X (8 inch color TFT, SVGA 800x600 dots).

Functions will be exactly the same once you upgrade to V3 (but you'll have to pay for the new sound libraries)

Great news!
Thanks, Korg - that´s truly a fair und clever product policy.
While being compatible to 3 great boards you will gain more new Kronos-Fans with a fully new invented (but incompatible) model...("never change a running system" seems to be the right way!)

Best regards

kronos_timmmy I hope the policy you speak of is Korg supporting the new OS for all Kronos version, that is great! If you are speaking of the library I will have to kindly but adamantly disagree. I actually started to think about a library for the Kronos then realized that i was also thinking of the new kronos 88. What good would the library now do me if I ever did trade in for the new one. You can not move, it is locked in to the original Kronos forever unless some sort of hardware problems cause an official korg repair and they have to for some reason restore it. I and many others won't buy these libraries for that reason. Korg would gain more sales if their policy was more flexible or if there was a way to move a library from one board to another.

Received word from Korg that 3.0 should be available for download very soon. Backed-up everything on my Kronos X and did a "Format and Full Install" ready for the 3.0 upgrade. Not recommending anyone to do this, but since this is a "Major Upgrade", I figured it would be the cleanest method going straight from a fresh factory format to new 3.0 system. I had no problems with this re-format what so ever. However, I had no idea it would take as long as it did for this procedure, but glad I did it. (not to mention, my Kronos was a bit un-organized anyway and what an easy way to resolve that).

Again, I am not suggesting anyone do this, but seemed it was the best & easiest way for me and now I am confident that I will have a clean 3.0 install (with no upgrades in between, similar with what you might do with a computer).

I just hope we get a better editor/librarian that comes with this upgrade. Otherwise, I just may fork out the $ for SoundQuest 11 Pro version.

Maybe... maybe not the best thing to do in that proper case. As some of the Korg crew told me. Be careful. Step by step...
