LOL

I saw that too. There is a lot of that kind of silly pricing going on at Amazon.

Some sellers will claim that they just slapped a goof price on, and will edit it back to reality later.

Of course, if a few days go by without any price change, the dream continues

I will be quite concerned if the D525MW is discontinued. I will have to find one somewhere then.

As of a couple of days ago, the D525MW motherboard was still listed as a current product on Intel's site, and they're easy to find online for around $160 - $180 (for that matter, it's pretty easy to find the original KRONOS D510MO m'board, too - I paid $40 for a"new-in-the-box" one on eBay a few months ago)...where did that "discontinued" information come from?...

SeedyLee,
Thank you for your indication.
That means, only Full Box version of D525MW Essential works properly?
Kronos-2 61, Kurzweil PC3A8, DS-1H, EXP-2,
Nanopad 2, NanoKey2,
Roland OctaCapture, Cubase 7.5.

I am not an expert, but my interpretation is that Korg do in fact apply their own custom BIOS and other modifications to the motherboard, and any variant purchased through retail chains will lack these modifications.

That's not to say that it wouldn't be possible to replicate these changes to an OEM version, but doing so may not be trivial.

Korg has this motherboard situation under control.

In the Kronos Service Manual, version 2.0, which covers Kronos and Kronos-X, there is a section that covers "Remodeling to change motherboard from D510MO to D525MW".

I interpret this section as follows:
-- Korg already knows D510MO motherboards are no longer available
-- Korg has spare D525MW motherboards
-- Korg service centers CAN replace a defective D510MO motherboard in the Kronos with a D525MW motherboard

Therefore:
-- if your Kronos motherboard dies a Korg Service Center CAN fix it
** KORG Product Support Contacts **
(they support BOTH hardware and software)

Korg USA Product support -- https://www.korgusa.com/contactus (For fastest service I would suggest calling them on the phone)

Outside the U.S. contact your Korg Country Distributor -- https://www.korg.com/us/corporate/distributors/

That's what they did to my kronos fitted D525mw but they also had to change most of the internal wiring and memory.

I've read this entire thread and I'm still confused.

Why is it so hard to get a definitive answer to a few simple questions?

Can you replace a Kronos mobo with either the original D510MO or the newer D525MW?

There's been a lot of talk about proprietary BIOS. Yes or no?

Has anyone ACTUALLY done it with success?

Thanks!

And here's more info on replacing the original D510MO with a newer D525MW, with thanks to Mr.K for posting this....

Kronos Motherboard Replacement Notes

Explanation

The original motherboard (BLKD510MO) used in the KRONOS series has been superseded by a newer model (BLKD525MW). This newer model is used in later production Kronos and KronosX series keyboards. Only this newer model motherboard will be provided as replacement parts.
The part number for the replacement motherboard is 200002189801.

Because of differences between the motherboards, replacing the original Kronos motherboard with the newer type will require changing some additional parts. Please use the following information as a guideline as to which additional parts to order.

Note that the keyboard size (61 or 73/8Cool and the amount of installed RAM must be taken into account when determining which additional parts need to be ordered.

Please refer to the service manual for detailed motherboard replacement instructions.

Required Changes

All Models (61 key, 73 key, and 88 key)

SO-DIMM RAM modules must ordered to replace the DIMM type modules used on the old style board. The Kronos normally comes with a single 2GB RAM DIMM installed, but may have been expanded with a second 1GB DIMM. In this case, two 2GB SO-DIMM modules should be installed on the new motherboard.
Please determine how many RAMs DIMMS are currently installed in the unit and order an equal number of the new SO-DIMM modules.
Order Part # 500002191100
KLM-3008 must be changed to an updated version.
(The updated board is still designated with the same KLM-3008 number)
Order Part # 200109263008 if it is in stock. Otherwise order part # 200129603005 for the 61 note version, or part # 200129613005 for the 73 & 88 note versions
Note: When ordered under part #'s 200129603005 or 200129613005 the KLM-3008 board is supplied as part of a PCB set that includes the front panel boards.
The power supply harness must be changed.
Order Part # 500475004186
61 Note Models Only:

The right side chassis must be changed.
Order Part # 500641042208
73 and 88 Note Models Only:

The two grounding shields must be changed.
Order Part # 500630042661 (Two required)

Is there any way to figure out what Motherboard is in there without opening up the case?

My 61 key went in for repair a couple of months ago and had the Motherboard swapped. I'm wondering if it's a new one.
