Isn't the Motif powered by like an 8MHz fireball processor? How can you even comment about an Atom?

The Motif forums must be like a funeral these days that they have to come here to see people excited about a product launching.
Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha).

... and take a dump on anything related to Kronos while they're at it. Seriously, this just become a Tom Sawyer-meets-Huck Finn-based cartoon. :) "Mom, mom, explain to this kid that my synth is better then his! Even though his synth has features that mine can't come close to! *waaaaaaah*"

Pathetic. If only people were capable of giving credit where credit's due.

What gets me is the animosity. It's not like Korg Forums decided to go invade their forums to crap all over a new product. We didn't even go there to gloat. It's like they need to convince themselves that the Motif that's been on the market for 12 years is still somehow advanced and they must convince all non believers.

If this is the class of Yamaha owners, I'd never want to be one.

Yeah you do, you just don't know it yet! Because they still didn't release their super-ultra-biturbo-diesel-4x4-16v Motif XXX, which will make all of your porn dreams come true! It will have a 24" touchscreen, 24GB of memory, built-in USB 3.0 and 2x512GB RAID0 SSD's, a Core i7 970, Firewire 800 and, in terms of sounds - a built-in chainsaw that can be used to modulate FM, Wavetable, HD, physical and granular synthesis blocks through VAST and HD1. And it will offer that at only $9.99! And, for advanced users, it will ofer an iPad interface that comes in the box with the iPad, and can determine wether you spin the chainsaw from 1000 to 3000rpms where the biturbo takes over and rides you all the way to 9000rpms! That add-on will cost only $24.99 from yet unnanounced Yamaha's online webstore!

I had already settled down with my instruments and I thought, that I had tamed my desire to get new synths for a while, but my gearlust was merely a sleeping dragon, until the day I heard that song. After that I have had terrible GAS for at least two years! Beautiful song and touching sounds.
Yes that's me. Glad you liked it, and sorry for givin you GAS...

I think that as a tool for judging "how good" a synth is, the processor specs are useless.

But it might be an interesting discussion for the computer nerds among us... ;)

Wonder if it uses a standard motherboard or if the electronics around the processor is standard off-the-shelf or custom made for the Kronos?

@macalister

The Intel Atom ist oudated on USA?!?!
Intel is doing CPUs only for the Latinamerican market.. or only Chilean market?!?!?!
Thats crap.

Intel realese the last Atom generation in Q4-2010 (Octubre-Noviembre-Diciembre 2010) on USA (also they didi continues releases over all 2010) with 64-bit instructions, SSE3 and SSSE3 instructions, DDR2 and DDR 3 RAM support, virtualization instructions VTx, EIST (to improve the power comsumption/performance ratio)... I see some of the newest technology from Intel...

Also, they are mostly sold to system manufacturers, not to home users.

Link

Chart with all Atom CPU on Intel.com

Its ridiculous that Intel releases CPUs on December to end their lifetime on January 2011 with the KRONOS lauch.
Nice things to do before asking:
Read the manual, search on the Forum and internet and try by yourself.
You will learn a lot more and faster.

The Intel Atoms CPUs are not outdated, the last ones was launched Q4-2010, and they (at 1.6Ghz) have similar performance than a P4 3.2Ghz (on one thread applications, on other they are surpased) and even better with applications with SMP (betwen 150%-200%), with only 1/2 of the power comsumption at idle and 1/5 at full load.

The Kronos does not run over a multipurpose OS like Windows, so all CPU power goes directly to it.

Also, and x86 CPU is far more powerfull than any CPU on other workstation like any Roland Fantom or Yamaha Motif.

For the info about the Atom-P4 comparison. look here (just blah blah without links, its blah blah)

Pentium 4 vs Intel Atom

Regards
Alvaro.

Indeed, and it would be very funny to have some actual specifications for the CPU's in Roland Fantom, Yamaha Motif (or even Korg M3) for comparison.

There are modern jet fighters (I believe the latest generation of Russian Sukhoi Su-37) as well as combat helicopters that power their systems with Intel 486DX processors.

In a single-purpose application you choose a CPU on a lot of other criterias than speed alone.

Also, if the Kronos used an i7 processor, it would require a lot more cooling than the Atom. And fans make noise, not only audible noise but electronic noise as well. In a high-end audio application you'd like to minimize this.

The point is that the Kronos is what it is. It does what it does. And all this with the processor that it has. If it was just a simple matter of spending another $100 for a bigger CPU and that's all it takes to add new features, the competition would have done this already. Building a new synthesizer workstation is so much more than finding a good CPU.
..." There are modern jet fighters (I believe the latest generation of Russian Sukhoi Su-37) as well as combat helicopters that power their systems with Intel 486DX processors. ..."....

I understand now why we are loosing the WAR against the Taliban , 'cause the 486DX??...ohhhh nooooooooo ....The Russians are helping them support them and they are using i7 or AMD 6x Cores.....?? Oops

Atom is a joke in 2011 and Korg knows this but and I don't care if Korg need to put inside Kronos 2 or 3 fans to keep Kronos under 90 F but please, don't fool the customers, Thanks

What processor is your precious Motif using? I mean it's better and more advanced therefor must be like some futuristic prototype or something right?

Put up or shut up troll....

It means nothing to him since he dont know what that is, he Googles Wiki

give him attention...till yesterday he was watching pigs down on the Balkans
then he got a refuge/asylum in a Western Country, then washed dishes for
like 3 years and finally got an IntelCeleron DELL on Credit...do you really
believe he has ever seen a Motif? Lolz...ahhhh...only if you guys knew where
we come from you would understand.

And yes, RFO is the dude with cool Gloves and Lights around... :D

so, Troll...

WHAT PROCESSOR DOES THE MOTIF HAVE?

Must be really awesome since they never mention it or have it documented anywhere.

....Mr.Kay introduced Karma 3.0 for the Yamaha Motif Series....we can also support Karma with Motif processor...( Intel i3 RI Special Edition with the best DAC's in Business....yet....Oops

Then it must have REALLY pissed you off when the M3 was named keyboard of the year at the Musik Messe Awards in Germany early 2007 beating out the Yamaha Motif XS. Especially considering the M3 pales in comparison to the OASYS or KRONOS.

No wonder you're bitter. Yamaha is probably in financial trouble now that their sales are going to all but stop. Maybe Korg will do them a solid and buy a majority to keep them in business.

We know than the Korg M3 is a piece of junk!, everybody is agree with this, but Korg paid a lot of money under table to get that Musik Messe Awards, we know that also, when I say "We" Im talking about the people on top the wave, is not your case, thanks and good night.
