(added 'RESOLVED' to the end of the post title!) WOOT!
I installed two Corsair 2Gb SDRAM's today as per PGT's post here. The Kronos started up without a hitch! I have a jam/practice tonight, so I'll be putting the board through its paces, and hopefully this remedy will stick. Long live the Kronos!
Dan, I'd be happy to send you the original memory so you folks can autopsy and see what failed. PM me if interested.
If it helps anyone for whatever reason, here's the information on the original memory, as indicated on its label (don't know what might be the lot number, if it's there at all):
hynix 2GB 2Rx8 PC2-6400U-666-12 A
Korea 01 HYMP125U64CP8-S6 AB 1102

That's great you got it sorted - well done
It's something worth bearing in mind about RAM. The OASYS suffers from exactly the same symptoms with bad RAM, so seems logical that the Kronos does too.

Nice happy ending (so far). This is why i don't build PCs any more. There are too many microscopic incompatibilities and so many "standards" that change by the month. It kind of scares me that music hardware is becoming more like PC builds. This alone gives me pause when looking toward future purchases, regardless of features.

Did you really never open your Kronos or do anything that would've possibly damaged the RAM? I keep mine very much like you've described, too. Maybe I should keep some of that RAM around!BrickPilot wrote:No event or anything to warrant this behavior.
I can relate to this.dysamoria wrote:Nice happy ending (so far). This is why i don't build PCs any more. Nope, replacing the RAM was the first time I opened the machine. I'm a weathered PC tech, doing software development/architecture now. Everything was handled very meticulously from day 1.Zeroesque wrote:@BrickPilot, did you ever open your Kronos or do anything that would've possibly damaged the RAM?

Wow, so maybe one possible reason why I never had a problem since beginning of July with my Kronos might be due to the fact that I have exchanged the original RAM quite soon with my own 4 Gb (2x2 fitting pair)?
Great you could resolve the issue, BrickPilot! Return to the fun zone!

Pleased you got it sorted. Have to say this has been worrying me a bit because my Kronos is on the move a lot - but no startup errors as yet ( crosses fingers )!

Great ! Well done ! And now you should send a bill to Korg... Or do you want to sit on the cost for what Korg messed up ?BrickPilot wrote:Amazon.com. $52 for:nowtime wrote:Congrats on your "new" Kronos!
