Hmmm.... hmmm some more...
It really should have been a JD synth. BUT, if it has a good sounding filter implementation, and analog sounding oscillators, and a raft of controls and buttons, this thing could sell right nicely. It's a bit hard to tell from the YouTube vid, but it does seem to sound a little better than my JP-8000, which has aliasing issues in the high registers.
Since I already have the VA thing covered pretty well with my Virus, Radias and my luscious Origin - as well as a certain wonderstation to come, I doubt I'll grab one anytime soon. But if it's as pretty and functional looking as the original JP-8, I could be persuaded down the road...

Someone in the Roland Clan claiming first hand information named it (seems I guessed right from the demo):
According to that info Roland will introduce a "Jupiter 80" (a 3 osc synth) at Musikmesse, whatever that means.
In former times, such an announcement would have made me curios and full of expectations. But after I have seen what kind of crap Roland is willing to call a "Juno", and in how many disgraceful variations, and after years of negative Fantom G experience, I am not a bit excited any more.
My first guess is that they probably once again might have found funny ways to devalue a normally great idea, and that they won't even come close to the rich analog sound of the original Jupiter 8. It's only another guess based on all the bad Roland experiences lateley: my Juno G got a broken LCD after much too short time short after guarantee, just like it happened to too many others (lousy hardware quality), and the Fantom G OS development has been a pure desaster from my view. So I have no faith at all any more in the abilities of the present Roland management and development team.
Anyway I wish anyone luck and fun, who may find that offer interesting enough. And in a way, I even wish them to get back to old quality, though I must admit I doubt it, and I personally won't buy ANYTHING from them for a long time to come.

Same thing happened to my Juno-G after I had owned it for more than three years the LCD started to die on me. One call to Roland UK and within a week they had picked it up, repaired it and sent it back to me for free.... They admitted that the LCD issue was their fault and put it right...great customer service.jimknopf wrote: It's only another guess based on all the bad Roland experiences lateley: my Juno G got a broken LCD after much too short time short after guarantee, just like it happened to too many others (lousy hardware quality), and the Fantom G OS development has been a pure desaster from my view. Anyway the Juno is still working fine and still makes great sounds - managed to programme some fantastic patiches on it (current fave is a memory moog strings patch which sounds great without putting tons of effects on it). But I have had it for nearly 5 years and looking to upgrade - which is why I am looking at the Kronos. One of my kids wants the Juno-G so I doubt I will be getting rid of it.
I like the idea of the Jupiter 80 (if that is really what its called) so I will be checking that out too.
What, what, what..... You've dropped the price of the Nord Stage 2 88 £1,000 to £2,500???? ....... No, can't be that... That would really be a surprise..............robinkle wrote:Countdown to ecstasy!

Roland can make good equipment, as with the V-Synth. It's possible that Roland got jealous of Arturia doing a credible job recreating the Jupiter with their software, and decided to finally drop the gauntlet themselves. Especially after the criticism of the SH-201 and Gaia.
The Jupiter emulation in Arturia's soft synth and Origin is very good. At first I didn't care all that much for the filter model, but that was just experimenting with a couple of patches. After delving into it some more, I'm very happy with it. In fact, I went on to create a few modular variations a-la System 700 on my Origin.
With just two oscillators, the sound is nice and juicy. Layer two patches, with two complete Jupiter voices, and it can get large and expressive, like a modular. You can do a lot with four oscillators running through two lowpass (plus two highpass) filters, shaped with four envelopes.
But the fun you can have rises exponentially with three oscillators in a patch. This is why the Minimoog, Memorymoog, Virus, Radias and other three osc synths sound so big and rich. I'd imagine two patches can be layered, and that has to be a freaking huge sound! This was a good call by Roland. Put those three oscillators through a properly modeled filter set, especially if the Jupiter filter isn't the only model, and they'll have a decent hit. If it has a great knob, button and slider endowed control panel, I think I'll pick one up as soon as I can. I might even sell my Virus for it.

The new offering will be housed in a metal chassis with aluminum endcaps, like the original.
It will have 76 keys and a large touch-screen interface.
The three oscillator synth will follow the same model as recent vintage moniker revamps like the Juno and SH and reportedly incorporate more interesting sound design attributes. As stated earlier, if you’re looking for a straight JP-8 revamp, this probably isn’t going to be your ticket, but it may offer some interesting possibilities, especially if they incorporate some technology from their V-Synth.
However, with a price coming in between $3500-$4000, the Jupiter 80 needs to sound massive.
Roland is also said to have some new digital pianos on tap and for Fantom lovers, a new XR 128 voice model for your workstation pleasure."
for that price it shall be at least full analog...
