With the various KRONOSes at the top of Thoman's sales rank and no hint of any price reduction in sight I doubt very much KORG will be inclined to introduce a next generation replacement any time soon.
KROME is the more likely candidate for replacement.

I heard the successor is a K3, with wood across the back.

That it does. I'm always amused people ask for things it already can do. Also, I agree, some Krome sequence features would be nice. And, maybe an honest to goodness, deep Ipad interface, like the Jupiter 80 had.

New engines don't affect polyphony. They share it. Code can be added to the OS, so feasibly a Bowed String, Brass, or Wind model can be added. I'm guessing MonoPoly, as well. Oh heck, just put all of them in, along with some King Korg filters, triple the RAM, and double the FX/polyphony. Label it the HELIOS and call it a year!

I think Krome is overdue for the update Kronos what is the point ? It is best selling workstation .
