Hi Dan, thanks for the rely:
Are you referring to https://www.korg.com/Services/Kronos_So ... _V2_E1.pdf? If so, I did look at it several times. It never gave me any comfort that my sounds would not be over written.

Just some background: If I make changes to a program I save it separately to one of the user banks and never over overwrite an original program.
If I missed something in the document, I apologize. I was just trying to figure out if it was going to overwrite stuff I saved in the user banks and if it did could I restore it. Does the document spell that out?

I think for now I’m just going to pass on this update. I’m playing out often now and I can’t afford to mess up my custom sounds because I doubt I would know how to restore them.

Some relevant parts of the doc:

"These files include updated CX-3 Programs in banks I-A and U-C, which take advantage of the new CX-3 features in KRONOS system version 2.1. All other data remains the same. For more details, see the pdf file “KRONOS_PRELOAD_V2_VNL_EFGS1.”"

"Loading only the new CX-3 Program banks
To load only the new CX-3 banks:
1. Go to the Disk Load page.
2. Open the FACTORY_V2 folder.
3. Select the PRELOAD_V2.PCG file.

4. Press the Open button.
Folders appear for Set Lists, Programs, Combis, etc. You are now looking inside the PCG file.
5. Select the Program folder. 6. Press the Open button.
Folders now appear for each of the Program banks.
7. Select Bank I-A.
8. Press the Load button.
A dialog will appear, showing that the default load location is Bank I-A (the same as the selected data). In this case, leave this set at the default.
9. Press OK.
The Programs will be loaded into Bank I-A.
10.Repeat steps 7-9 for Bank U-C.
Now, all of the new CX-3 Programs are loaded."

So, the procedure above loads the data into Banks I-A and U-C only.

You can also open a PCG in disk mode to see what it contains, and thus what it will write into memory when loaded.

It's really worthwhile to spend just a little time getting to know how to save and load files. It's easy and convenient, and it should help you to use the KRONOS more effectively. Calling the support department of your national Korg Distributor might be helpful as well (see the link in my signature).

So here is my question. If I did a "Save All" I'm guessing that should have saved my sounds, right? If I needed to restore them if they get overwritten with V2, am I going to be able to restore only my sounds in the User banks?

Yes, you can do so. You can load individual banks and/or individual sounds from a PCG.

I completed my update of Preload V2 and all went well. Once Dan explained that I could look in and see what was in the PCG file I was able to determine that my custom patches would not be overwritten.
