It's the only thing that will let you really learn the feel of an acoustic instrument, no amount of samples or sympathetic string resonance or whatever features and whathaveyous can compete with the actual feel of an acoustic piano vibrating beneath your fingers and in front of you. Anything else is bought for convenience (easier to record well, less noise, midi, portability, etc..).
If I didn't live where I live (my house is sandwiched between two others, all sort of joined on to each other) I would have an acoustic by now.
I hear you. I'm lucky enough to play a grand at work, I couldn't have one (or an upright) at home either. Perhaps as an idea for the future you could consider the Yamaha silent piano system. I've tried it and it's quite good. Still clunks some when "silent" but that way you could play a real acoustic a couple hours during the day perhaps and then switch to silent mode for the neighbors. It's pretty expensive though :/
But worth a thought!

What is it with music/piano'S etc that annoys neighbours ' Were as reving cars' Lawn mowers ' TV'S, Loud chatter etc is "acceptable'' ?

it seems that When some neigbours hear "musical instruments" being played ' it affects them differently over "hi-fi"music or Loud pop music.

I surpose it depends on the skill of the player.

If someone is constantly playing the same piece over and over again while practising it can get a little annoying.

Good luck with MP-10. It is a SPLENDID keybed, quite ahead of RH3 on Kronos 88 in terms of response and overall feel, IMHO.

I believe you've made a good choice considering your situation and experience with Kronos.

By the way, if you're looking for an INTELLIGENT virtual drummer, definitely check out Jamstix 3, not Stylus RMX!

Keyboards are like relationships, sometimes they just don't work out. Life is short, enjoy your new board and have fun…

Thanks for that, I've never seen that one before, have just downloaded the demo.

I presume as I'm using the drums in NI, the cheapest version should do me?

Many thanks everyone.

I hope to be a Korg customer again one day but I will still be posting :)

If anyone's interested, I'm selling my karma Kronos software cheap ;)

Yes, you don't need the full shebang (except perhaps the AIpak which has additional drummer brains!). Jamstix sends out MIDI to whatever drum sampler you're using, there are various keymaps available. And definitely sign in to Rayzoon forums, great support there!

hehe, mind you I found most musicians as bad as one another (when in bands between the age of about 17 - 27)

Every one setting the levels at band practice, within 3 secs of playing, guitarist turning him self up, bass player doing the same, then there's a problem, bass player doesn't care, carries on playing oblivious to everyone else stopping etc

I left the last band after a horrendous practice where no one could hear what the other people were doing and I tried an experiment and literally pressed random groups of keys up and down the keyboard with my hands/palms and at the end asked them what they thought.

Everyone said it sounded brilliant, I took that as my cue I was wasting my time, quit the band and haven't been in one since.

Did you consider the Kawai VPC1 controller?

I sold my Kronos 88 and bought a Kronos 61 and a Casio PX-5S to use as a controller for the Kronos. For a gig rig it has much better action, lightweight, and more versatile.
I also plan to get the VPC1 to use with the Kronos and Galaxy Vintage D in the home studio.

Yes, apart from the fact its almost impossible to get hold of, its button less.

You have just the power button which also allows you to select one of 5 preset modes,

Standard, Ivory, Pianoteq, Galaxy and Alicia's Keys

It's designed as a software piano keyboard, not as a full on midi controller and you need to use the PC or Mac software to change anything.

I went the MP10 route (also considered the MP6) as it was one of the few with a nice keybed that also acts as a half decent midi controller (mod wheel, pitch bend wheel, transport controls etc).

While I'm obviously in "it's new to me new so its brilliant" mode, its amazing how small things can be so good.

Having a led lit button to turn midi on and off, having another one to turn local on and off, very small little things, but playing with the internal piano, pressing one button and also playing Kontact, pressing one other button and only playing kontakt, makes life very easy.

Sure on the Kronos I could press Global, press Midi tab, and press the local on off check box, but this is way easier, quicker and more comfortable.

Try it first, I think there's a demo. It's a complex program (I mean it can be used simply, but there's definitely a learning curve) to master, but it can really enhance just about any drum sample library because it simply feels alive, it's not just stacked MIDI patterns and loops going on.
