DX7 Patches

That's got nothing to do with it. Any DX7II can load DX7 sounds - the voice data is exactly the same. A DX7II dump is actually a combination of 5 separate data dumps - 2 x Voice Bank, 2 x Additional Parameters Bank, and a Fractional Scaling bank. The Kronos can only read a Voice Bank and it must be the first data block in the file. Most likely, with your data, the first SysX message is a bank select message (necessary to tell the DX7II where to store the following Voice Bank) and that is why the Kronos is rejecting it. You would need to modify the existing file or extract the Voice Bank data to a new file in order to load it.

They definitely will see the light of day but it is likely to be at least a couple more months before they do. I guess it depends on how urgently you need them.

Hello Ed, it took longer than expected but the DX7 voices are now available as Kronos Programs and are accessible using any version of Midi Quest 11. Once all of the duplicates are removed, the count is reduced to a little over 30,000 unique Programs.

Not exactly, Francois. It means purchasing any of the 3 Midi Quest versions ranging from $149 through $299 (I guess that's 95 through 190 pounds). There may be reasons to choose the Pro version but it isn't necessary from the perspective of the patches.

Marketing is well done:
If you want logic names, you need to go for pro version. If you want a AU plugin, you need to go for pro version, Ipod/ipad support guess what ? pro version !! OSC Support ??? no? Yes... pro version...

No, I will NOT buy this software. For a flagship workstation of 21th century Korg should provide at least a 64 bit version to use with modern environments. (this beast cost me almost 3000 EUR !)

In the past, If I remember well, that was possible to buy a full version to use with only one synth (even if I do have 4 now)...; but now... still miss Emagic Sounddiver...please Emagic come back and kick out all this people...

First two (especially first one) is so basic....

I guess if you buy MQ11, it's because you need a universal editor/librarian. Otherwise, the current v2 Editor supplied for free is sufficient, specially if you combine the use of the program with that of PCG Tools.

Sorry to disagree here, Francois.

The current v2 Editor is no 64bit version. But the state of things nowadays is simply that 64bit is THE current environment for nearly anyone using music software, for very good reasons.

I see two major flaws in the current state of things for Kronos users (and I belong to those who are generally extremely happy with their Kronos and the first class Korg updates for it):

- one on Korg's side: the Kronos was originally advertised as coming with a plugin for PC/sequencer use, but when that finally came - after many months of waiting in vain - it was no 64bit version (they obviously had only ordered a 32bit version) and offered much less than I was used to from other hardware plugins (no automation etc.). I try to be fair here: maybe Korg underestimated the degree of work required to write a plugin managing the compexity of Kronos parameters in a fluid way, and maybe with a UI beyond just mirroring the Kronos itself.

- I see the even bigger flaw on Soundquests side: they do not offer a 64bit version of the Kronos-only editor. Instead they try to force us Kronos users into buying a full Midiquest version (from 149$ - for the basic essentials - to 299$ - for the Pro version Kronos upgrade), which many of us neither need nor want. But that's the only way to get access to a 64 bit version at all. From my view this is definitely dirty business with Kronos owners. It annoys me enough not to buy ANYTHING from Soundquest, if they don't change that status to a decent upgrade price for a 64bit Kronos only version within a short time. Anything else is far from acceptable from my view.

I have fine editors for my Access Virus (at no additional cost at all and with advanced VSTi integration including automation), my Moog Voyager and Moog LP (also VSTi level), my Kingkorg (iPad editor) and Microkorg XL+ (ipad editor), and don't need any Soundquest editor beyond my Kronos.

Yes, the editor is no 64 bit, but it still works on a 64 bit system. The only thing is that you cannot use it for VST integration with a sequencer. Doesn't bother me, but I can see it would bother some.

In any case, I'd rather have a free editor that's only 32 bit but enables me to do what I want with it, i.e. program quicker than using the onboard screen, than have none at all.

I'm rather happy to have this tool. Is it perfect ? No. But I remember the old saying "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" and get on with it.

Oh, and thanks to you Michael for still being here in spite of the flak you're taking.
