I agree. Though it really would be nice to see some actual support for THIS synth for more than a year.Zeroesque wrote:The penchant for melodrama and over-simplification from the expert complainers on the page is laughable.
As for the next version, I would guess that it would be a V2 sometime this year. After that, Korg would seemingly have to really be focused on other products, possibly including Kronos-derived synths or even their next flagship keyboard (NAMM 2014?). This is complete conjecture, of course.
Any word on OS update???

The over simplification is from the 'its OK Korg, bugs are to be expected' camp, me thinks.
This is my personal reminder list form this forum and I didn't know about the oriental scales issues.

______________
MS20 - Steps:
1. Go to EXi Init Prog (I used U-AA 008)
2. Set EXi 1 to MS-20EX
3. Go to Osc & Filter page, turn up down resonance and turn up cutoff on LPF. Set EG 2/EXT for LPF to zero
4. Turn resonance for HPF all the way up. Turn EG 2/EXT for HPF all the way up.
5. Notice that not much happens. However, if moving the Value Slider with EG 2/EXT for HPF selected, whilst also playing simultaneously, the desired effect is sometimes heard.
KARMA - Steps:
1. Go to any Init Prog (I used U-AA 008)
2. Turn KARMA on
3. Go to Common > KARMA > GE Setup/Key Zones
4. Select GE 0036 (Exp Triad)
5. Play the keys. Play a chord. There is a simple arpeggio with notes playing underneath. This is what I'd like to use
6. Write the program
7. Navigate away from the program to any other programs. Then return. The KARMA pattern is entirely different! In this case I have some annoying high speed repeating single note thing.
8. Return to the GE Setup page, toggle away from this GE and back again. We are now back where we started. Hit Write and it will change again..
EP - Steps:
1. Select any blank EXi program
2. Set EXi1 to EP1
3. Go to EXi1 > Panel/IFX/Amp. Turn on cabinet and turn up the drive.
4. Mmm.. Warm drive... Very Happy
6. Go to Basic/Osc > Basic and now choose a different model. I used the Wurl.. Uh I mean "Reed EP 200A"
7. Notice you still have nice cabinet & drive.
8. Return to Play > Main, OR EXi1 > Panel.. Doesn't really matter except to watch it all disappear..
9. When you hit REC/WRITE and Ok. Amp cab is gone and drive has returned to zero.
Now you can dial it in again and it's fine.. But I had a program I had started a week ago, decided to change the model, but can't for the life of me remember what the Drive was set to.. Just know that it sounded good! And now I can't be sure it's right.
_____________
I've discovered 3 bugs in 1.6:
BUG 1: The KARMA Save bug:
the workaround works 4 out of 5 times, so my workflow is now selecting a KARMA GE twice, then save, then go to a different patch and back to the patch i just edited, and if then the KARMA GE works fine i start programming the KARMA GE. 4 out of 5 times this works, and the other time after saving the KARMA GE is still wrong (even though i selected it twice).
BUG 2: When i don't use the Kronos for more then a couple of hours then the KARMA engine is messed up. I've checked this by selecting a custom finished program from me, then the KARMA GE plays correctly where i set the note range to 1 octave. Then i leave the KRONOS on that program without touching it for a couple of hours and return and play that same program. This time the Note range plays over more octaves without any modification.
When leaving the Program and returning to the program the KARMA still plays wrong. Then i reboot the Kronos and then that program works fine for several hours. Very strange and reproducable KARMA behaviour. This didn't happen in 1.5.
BUG 3: When i push the kronos in a combi to the limits (voice cpu max and note stealing Max) then sometimes the system stops playing completely and after that the Effects doesn't work correctly anymore for any program and combi. It crackles and behaves very strange. This did work perfectly in 1.5 and was introduced with 1.6.

Other than the Karma bug introduced with 1.6 and the couple issues related to arabic/oriental scales, what major bugs are still out there? I know there are issues with the Editor, but that's technically separate and will most likely be addressed as an update to that software, not to the Kronos itself.
Note there is a distinct difference between an actual bug and "I wish the Kronos did this differently or had this feature that I think it should have."
Well, I only described my own work and what I think my customers want from me! If Korg give you all this, then all is fine and be happy!

The difference between a wish and a bug I can understand, but here you have to include better handling, too. So, not every wish is only a wish?

But the difference between an issue and a bug I don't understand? Wrong is wrong or not? And the editor for example is a product from the Kronos which was praised from Korg? If my trainee makes a mistake, it's my fault and responsibility because I charged him with that work!
And wishes often result from a big marketing strategy, too! If a developer praise a bicycle as a Ferrari ... well I will ask him for the motor!
And if Korg praise its Kronos as a brilliant production center with rock solid DAW integration, with which I can produce and burn a whole album directly from the Kronos to CD ... well, I will ask Korg for a piano roll, sequencer features, polyphony, editor, plugin ...
From the Korg webside:
16-track MIDI sequencer / 16-track audio recorder
Kronos features a sequencer/recording section that offers both 16 MIDI tracks plus 16 audio tracks; a great resource for putting together a dazzling performance or a brilliant production. MIDI sequencing makes it easy to capture ideas, inspiration, and pro-quality phrases using the KARMA, Drum Track, or RPPR (Realtime Pattern Play/Recording) functions. The 16-track audio recorder simultaneously captures up to four tracks of 16-bit/24-bit uncompressed data at a sampling rate of 48 kHz. Play along with recorded tracks, add effects, and then resample the Kronos itself and place the resampled WAVE files directly in a track. When polishing your tracks, feel free to use mixer automation and editing functions such as copy, paste, and normalize to get the results you want. Plug in a USB CD-burner and assemble your album right from the TouchView display!
and:
Korg’s Rock-Solid Workstation Integration Puts it all Together
Packed with unlimited sound potential, Kronos is much more than a synthesizer. Kronos comes complete with all of the extras required of a modern workstation, plus so much more. From music production to live performance, the Kronos Music Workstation integrates a world-class list of tools into a single, reliable instrument. Under the hood, all nine engines share the same hardware, with no separate cards to manage or polyphony barriers between them—and no “CPU overs” to worry about. Kronos dynamically allocates power between the engines as you play, automatically and in real time, providing an integrated experience no PC can match. In addition, Kronos smoothly functions as a plug-in* with many popular DAWs, providing your studio with native, unprecedented sonic power.
* Free Editor software now available www.korg.com/kronos/support under the "Software" heading.

So now the question is:
What is a wish and what is a promised feature for what you paid your money?

Counterquestion: What exactly did they promise in the text what you didn't get? Any specs that are not true here?clipnotic wrote: What is a wish and what is a promised feature for what you paid your money?
"brilliant production" is no spec - What you need or like to have to achieve a brilliant production is a matter of your personal taste.
again .Jens:
Every comment and critizism is welcome BUT for me not yours! You chase me in every thread and you have really a big problem with reading!

And I don't answer questions from you - never! Because for me fanboys like you have no sense for me ... but like you said, thats a matter of taste and perhaps Korg will love you!

This is not acceptable. The board as fantastic as it is has been out for way over a year now. These known bugs should have been dressed and rectified, way before this. Forget further enhancements till after we have a rock solid base. Please where are the fixes
Making music is a passion, not a choice of lifestyle

I thought I'd ask since clipnotic won't answer .jens
Who's the fan boy now?
I was up till midnight play my Kronos/JP80 combo and it is a brilliant production system keyboard.
I commonly turn my Kronos on in the morning and leave it on all day long with many long periods of rest, and it has never locked up or did anything weird.
I have sounds get latched on, and changing slots has always solved the stuck notes, (ie no reboots required).
The Kronos is not perfect, but it is one high performance great sounding instrument. I'll be happy with any upgrades and can't wait to get them. But, reading some of the comments out there, some of you need to give up state of the art technology and take guitar playing
acoustic that is.
It 7 am in the morning here, it time to fire up the studio for a full day of fun, centered around the Kronos.

@JPWC:
Well between .Jens and me it's another and personal thing which I hope it's finished now?
I answer your question gladly - no problem! I have no problem with discussion and criticism if it's fair and realistic!
It's a big difference to produce a song or only play a keyboard! You should know that if you ever produced a song, an album ?
You are right, the Kronos is a brilliant keyboard and has nice sounds and wonderful syntheses possibilities! But there is a huge difference to a full and brilliant production tool! Or do you think all that big studios can sell their equipment and need only to buy the Kronos now?
The problem is the difference between the excessive marketing strategy from Korg and what the really built!
And sorry if you don't want to believe me, but my buisness notebook for 800 EUR has more technical features and power like the Kronos! And my 300 EUR M-Audio Axiom Keyboard has not such problems like the Kronos keyboard. And an Ipad has more sequencer possibilities like the Kronos ...
And if I look to other modern gear like a Feeltune Rhizome for example, there are many differences, too - with better service, better communication, more possibilities, more features, more interesting for user ideas and wishes ...
So again:
For me, the Kronos doesn't fulfill what Korgs marketing strategy praises! If I want to produce with the Kronos I have do this with midi connections in my DAW because the rock solid DAW integration seems not to be very rock solid at the moment, too?
So, what's really left from the Kronos? It's wonderful soundmodule with great syntheses ... but nothing more in its actually condition!
But I think they can do it with an expanded version! So again I'm not bashing and bitching ... it's the truth!

thanks for your reply clipnotic.
And your correct, the Kronos is a keyboard to me, the most powerful in my collection.
I am keyboard player, not necessarily a beat maker. If I was a beat making producer, I'd probably stick to a computer based system and center my music production around a program like Live.
Keyboards are not music though, they are tools for making music, as is a daw or any beat making machine or software, the music comes from us.
And I am a Fanboy of all keyboard instruments and all music making technology (yes, I even own a few guitars).
I come to the forums daily, not to whine or complain or expect some company like Korg to pay attention to me, because they won't. I come here to learn and enjoy and hopeful help out every once in a while. And I come here to see if there are any OS updates, because like everyone else, I want more and better.
Sorry, sometimes I forget others come here for different reasons. Maybe because they don't have any music.

Yes, you are right! The Kronos is really a great keyboard and I love its sound possibilities, too! That's the reason I spend my time here in this forum, too!
But I think with its great syntheses possibilities it could be much more like only a keyboard! And sorry but Korg doesn't praise it as only a keyboard but as a brilliant production tool from where I can burn a full produced album directly to CD! So people like me ask them for the features to do that!
I would never ask a guitar developer for a sequencer because he doesn't praise its guitar like that!
And yes this forum is a very good forum with great musicians and very helpful users, too!
But a developers forum should be a place, too, for real criticism and discussion - between users and Korg!
And of course, I'm a fanboy, too - I love my equipment very much! But if somebody asks me and criticises it, it's ok and I'm interested why he criticises it because perhaps I can learn something about that ... and if I would be Korg, I would be happy for users which do this because criticism can be motivating and helpful!
I spend a lot of time to look at the Kronos and the Kronos is the first workstation which really could be a good production center - if Korg wants that!
