2 Months without Kronos editor - zero communication

Its sort of the lesser of two evils. As soon as they make a statement which even merely points to a time frame....then they have made, on some level, a commitment (at the very least they have raised expectations). And when, invariably for whatever reason, they do not release the software in conjunction with that aforementioned time reference....they will take far more heat and ill will for failing to deliver.
Staying quiet = most options with least impact.
Saying anything = limiting options with potential for worse impact.
If I was them....I would shut my mouth until I was ready to release it.

Writing such an app can take manyears, so I guess they started already some time ago. And sometimes it's hard to predict when it's ready. Software creation is still a quite unmature profession. The reason my app goes so quickly is because what I do is fairly simple and I don't have much code yet.NavidSyed wrote:or we have not start writing an editor yet...but soon we will start planning about choosing the code for the software editor..PinkFloydDudi wrote: Would it kill them to say "in the final phases of testing"...or "We are waiting on a driver update from ____"...or "we will have it in 3 weeks?

What is ridiculous? That it took 6 months to write or that it took 6 months between the announcement and delivery? 6 Months for writing a complete editor is not slow (depending on how many people are involved of course).aron wrote:I think it took us 6 months to do the K2000 Editor. Maybe less, but it was ridiculous.

I was just pointing out that it was a lot of work. All different data sizes, lots of sysex communication, back and forth over issues. I just meant that it took a lot of work. The framework was in place before that, so this is just writing the keyboard-specific parts.
Yes, it's not slow, Mike Lee did an awesome job on the K2000 editor!

I only have to take care of reading a file so that's somewhat easier than all sysex messages.

I was in a store today looking at a Kronos and a similarly priced Kurzweil. I'm considering the Kronos as I already have an Oasys and it looks pretty solid but editing is important (and there's already an editor for the Kurzweil).
Also, assuming there is an editor coming, and since it looks like the Kronos and Oasys are compatible in terms of getting sounds from the Oasys into the Kronos, is there any possibility that this editor will work for the Oasys as well? That would be very sweet.

EDIT: removed references to "soon" as I see that others have already commented on this!

It is much easier to edit sounds with a decently designed software app on a big screen than it is to do it from the front panel. That's true for pretty much every instrument I've ever come across.

In the grand scheme of things, this machine is so easy to use, I'm intrigued to see what additional functionality the Editor might bring.... aside from Librarian aspects....
Which in the meantime, there's so any sounds to get to grips with, I think I can hang on a bit until Korg release it......

has anyone heard whether the editor will allow remote control of the onboard sequencer?

"easy" is relative. In some ways I can see its easier. But then, having the instrument and its control surface in your hands can also be easier. Especially when you don't want to mess with a computer, or have a burst of inspiration. It really depends on your application at the time. I would like the power of choice. Having the option to do either is best, IMO. But there are many times when I will think one, or the other, is "easier".dhjdhj wrote:It is much easier to edit sounds with a decently designed software app on a big screen than it is to do it from the front panel.
