The Z1 came before the MOSS.
[/quote]
MOSS was the essence of the Z1, so the first incarnation.
As for the M3, it was probably an eBay listing for an EXB-MOSS that contained reference to the M3, or EXB-M256 getting munged in the grey matter. Fake news, obviously!! ;-)

The VL board was pretty weak in terms of sounding like the "real" VL1.
It did work and was ok, but the difference is big in sound and in price.
That being said, I would love some sort of VL engine for brass/woodwind in the Kronos. I would love an Odyssey engine as well.

An additional engine in the Kronos would be great! I'd certainly pay to add a mono/poly, providing the price is not stratospheric.
I'm sure Korg must have assessed the profitableness of such idea at one point of another.
Say it was 699$, would most users buy it? A poll on that would be interesting.
Being able to buy and add additional effects would be cool too.

700 bucks for a new engine in the Kronos?
You're joking aren't you?
Bit steep for an app...how about seventy bucks...yeah that's better!

They may add new engines in the Kronos, but I'm 100% sure it won't be in the Kronos 2, if they add anything to the current Kronos synth, it'll be in a Kronos 3.
And if they did a Kronos 3, and added new engines they probably would take some old ones out, that many will miss, to prevent an over saturation and total satisfaction with technology.
They have to sell you the next new model, not keep updating the old one.

Would be really interesting to hear them side by side (or the VL70m), can't find anything anywhere.

there is a recent post around here that quoted Dan at K0rg- that the Kronos is maxed out or software limited- no further engines can be added
I am absolutely *not* promising any new engines, but from a technical standpoint that sounds like a misunderstanding. What post are you referring to here?
Hi Dan. I was quoting bacchus who said he had some info from you. See directly above.
Sorry about the confusion
Glad to see Dan is still around and reading the forums...
Cant find the orriginal post that fast, but if Dan says so, it all must be misreading/misremembering from my side... so my apologies for that...
Lets keep it to the fact that than confirms that new engines for the Kronos where and are still very very unlikely...
There is also a poll on this board now, that seems to confirm the fact that not many people are interested in making developing a new engine for the Kronos finacially attractive for them...

Something like the Korg Trident Mk II as an engine would be awesome, but it'll never happen.

When the Kronos 2 came out, people that owned a Kronos 1 were able to upgrade to
all the software of the Kronos 2 (including sound libraries, etc.) for (I think) about $250. I think that an OS upgrade that includes both the ability to add new engines AND at least one new engine for about $250 would be reasonable. But for $699? That seems excessive, especially when you can get hugely powerful VSTs for less than that.

$699 definitely way too much, but then you'd have to consider things like fragmentation if you started introducing effects for sale.
Imagine you have a sound library that you've just paid say... $350 for. Now imagine that library has some minor effects dependencies - You'd have to then go out and pay MORE for the effects to the sound exactly as the author originally intended.
This kind of fragmentation is similar to games that have IAP (In-app purchases) where to complete a certain level, you have to pay for more stuff that you couldn't get otherwise, or you have to grind out for hours and hours while being exposed to ads, but only in Korg's case they aren't exposing you to ads every time you want to use a certain effect.
I definitely don't support this behavior from any developer, and to start seeing something like that in the synthesis market would be pretty terrible. Synth libraries sure, engines I can see but when you have to start paying for individual effects or effects packs, that's getting too fragmented for my liking.

I'd pay for more vocal FX, like autotune, doubling, harmony, mic modelling, and being able to use an audio clip on the hard disk as a carrier for the vocoder.

The Kronos has two Mic Modeling effects - check them out!
That last one (audio clip as vocoder carrier) you can also do already, using Sequencer mode. Alternatively, save the audio clip into a user sample bank, and load the bank via VMT.

Korg forums just don't feel right without casual posts from you, Dan.
Looking back at nearly half a dozen years of Kronos use, I can't help but feel grateful. And I want to take the chance to say thanks for a lot of help from you, paving the way for creative use of the Kronos, when that concept still was new to me. Many users have profited from that again and again. In return, I have bought more Korg sound libraries than I really needed, very consciously, supporting the whole great project with all the updating goodness.
Looking back at your times of presence and absence over the years, I think one good reason for your absense has been, that you normally are working on something important during these times. My only concern was, that we might lose you due to some Japanese re-structuring. I would write all kinds of emails to Korg Japan, if that would ever happen!
All the best to you and your work.

Well, looks the Korg Grandstage prototype holds new farfisa and vox continental engines... Nice! I would love to have those on the Kronos as well.
This prototype surely misses 9 sliders/drawbars by the way ( preferable with led indication like the oasys had).
