Thank you for your advise. I'll try it. Regarding the sounds (preset) I still think that synths based on triton (TR series and X50, not M50) are better. Probably not because of the M3 engine but because they have been carefully designed, as wrote gjvti above.

gjvti wrote:I would agree that X50 combis to me also sound slightly better balanced (TR based and polished for years) just out of the box, but this is certainly because m3 offers more features and options requiring more time to build/tweak a truly polished well balanced combi. But if you invest reasonable amount of time and effort M3 gives you far more than X50 - that's for sure!
I agree completely. But I'm talking about presets. I love to create landscapes and other sounds but I have not time for it. Starting with a good preset can save you a lot of time.

Would be adding the filters of TR in a next SO possible?

I believe I have discovered why the sounds of triton based synth seem better than the M3 ones. I have a X50 that a friend left me above my M3. I tried to emulate a quite complex program of the X50 with my M3. So I manually copied all the parameters starting with the multisamples for the oscillators and working page on page the other ones. The result was a similar sound but not so spectacular than the X50 program  . Then I noticed that turning off the filter of both synths they sound exactly the same! :o . Althogh there are more combination possibilities with the filters of the M3, their sound are colder. They remember me the filters of my old Roland XP-30. They produce an annoying noise specially at high levels of resonance. On the other hand X50 filters are warmer and this is evident in sounds like pads, FX, synth bass, etc...
So my wish is that Korg team recover the "resonant low pass filter" and the "low & high pass filter" from triton based synth. They possibly could be added (at least an emulation).

wish again...for Korg's santa claus :D

1. in a combi track parameter, there is 8 checkboxes for each track to enable the track for each scene.

2. in karma setting, there is a checkbox which save realtime scene parameter changes or not. so if i set it blank (not checked it), then if i change the karma slider, and i change the scene, the previous scene is not change and keep at the original state :) i found it's very usefull to create a rhythm fills before i change to the other scene.

3. to be continue...

i hope Korg can be serious to upgrade and maximize M3's firmware, because the M3's potential is still impressive...

Reasonable wishes

1. Autoload user samples function. Few days ago I overwrite some user programs when loading the pcg instead of the ksc file as a mistake.
2. Triton low pass resonant filter.
3. Triton LF0s.
4. And then triton compatibility.
5. New skin for the software editor. It souldn't be so different that the enviroment of the M3 screen. The editor should be the same but showing more at a time. For example: showing the same P0: Play with all the 16 timbres instead of only 8. (Just like OASYS screen). There's no need of learning the same things twice.
6. M3 as usb midi interface.
Not so reasonable:
7. M3 as a host. With drivers for most common keyboard controllers. It would be fantastic to connect my Alesis Photon to the M3 with an USB powered connection.

Beside of this great korg forum, how about Korg Resource Center. The features is like this:
1. Share
( sounds, combis, GEs, drumtrack, drumkit, pattern, samples, and even songs )
2. Trade (Buy or Sell)
( sounds, combis, GEs, drumtrack, drumkit, pattern, even third party products )
3. Tutorials and howtos or more product knowledges
4. News or newsletters

And inside the Share and Trade contain:
- advanced search and sort (by category, ratting, developer, detail, price maybe, etc)
- support ratting and comment (managed by user or administrator)
- upload demo mp3 for sound, combi, pattern samples
- download, hear, and seeing statistics
- version update and tracking
- add links for they who sell the items outside

In the tutorial and howto section contain:
- request tutorial and rating
- comment at the tutorial
- build own tutorial
- user can contribute tutorial too

Anyway, it's good if the website can use some email, facebook or twitter features, such as invite friend, sync posts with facebook or twitter :)

RSS support is another great feature to be included in this website too.

I think the concept of iTunes, Yamaha Motifator and Joomla community is very good to be adopted here, so we as users can easily search, browse and learn korg's products.

This website can be used for community center and also a strong marketing tools.

Just my another dream, pls feel free to comment this crazy idea...

I would like to have the ability to use the enter button in the data create/erase screen like my old triton. In order to go from key to key you have to remember the key number and then enter it. On the triton you could hold down enter button and hit the key you want to edit and it would pull up the respected key...it is annoying

As an owner of both a Triton Pro and Karma with MOSS, I can certainly agree with you on the quality of those basic filters. The resonant 24db lowpass and non-resonant dual 12db high and lowpass filters were surprsingly capable of producing all kinds of analog and digital textures. And the 24db LP was quite beefy and Moogy, especially with the right waveforms.

However, the M3 sounding cold... I'm not quite with you there. I find it to be a very potent sound creator. Maybe a quick touch on what the term "cold" means in keyboard terms. Usually it boils down to two qualities:

- Low frequencies are a little thin, or very thin, or there's too much treble boost.
- Patches aren't quite as "rich" sounding, which could mean a number of things, from lighter chorus effects to patches using less layers to thicken the sound.

The Triton Pro was sold some time ago and a friend borrowed the Karma, but I'll be heading over there at some point, so I'll poke around with some similar patches and see if I find the Karma to have some quality that makes it superior in certain ways.

I will have to say that the M3's patches do seem to be sonically well balanced, and maybe that's the issue with everyone's reactions to some patches, that they don't all have some sub-oscillator grunt, or the low EQ isn't jacked up above 10.

I don't understand - if you want your M3 to be a Triton, why don't you just buy a Triton instead?

Things move on, KORG's synths have a new sound...

may I post a dumb question?

And a long one for that?

I use both M3 and M1Rex (4 of them) because I think that the M1 acoustic emulations (and some "fake" EP emulations and "digital" pads) have a "raw" quality to them, and a presence, that the M3 hasn't (and because I like having separate modules and their outs for easier rog management and mxing, without over-sharing the M3).

I have always been a Korg user and aficionado, love the "korg sound",

but due to several reason I "skipped" the Triton and trinity generation, going directly from 01/w-pro to M3 (passing through the prophecy, which I traded for yamaha VLs).

I have no idea what the different models of triton rack are.

I don't care about a sampler.

I don't need analog emulations (I use plenty of true analog).

The dumb question is:

Would you recommend adding a Triton rack to a setup, as a "fatter m3" and as a "more advanced [polyphony, effects]" M1?

Just for acoustic emulations (brass, sax, trumpet) and some "01/w-like" and "wavestation-like" pads?

Is it worth selling a couple of M1Rex and buying a triton?

Is it worth the learning curve, the preset-cleaning process, the reprogramming work (I'd reprogram three pads, two trumpets and two saxes, not much of a job)?

Which model? (rack only, of course, have no place in my rig for more keys)?

With which expansions?

Of course I discount the answer: "go and listen to it": "go" means "buy one and try, then sell it if it doesn't sound good", so before I waste my time, I am asking to people who own and use [no "related info from my cousin, pls"] both M3, triton and M1ex

Thanks in advance
