Korg is no longer catering only to experienced musicians. They are making inexpensive and easy to use musical instruments/gadgets available to anyone regardless of experience. It's good for the budding musicians in the world and good for Korg's revenue stream. Music should be accessible to anyone with a desire to play or just make noise.
But I think Korg will still continue to make high end professional gear for many years to come. Just because there isn't a new super synth every year at NAMM doesn't mean a company has given up. The market is just getting to the point where many people are content with what they have. How many people with a Kronos use it to its full capacity? Is a bigger and better one really needed right now?

My honest opinion just glancing at the main page, is it looks like Korg is aiming for a completely different market.
It almost sort of looks like a load of cheap plastic rubbish aimed at the non pro. Probably isn't, but thats the impression it gives me.
Nothing appears to ooze quality, whether thats from the way the pics are taken and the web site designed, or whether most of their stuff is cheap plastic, I don't know, but to me, everything kind of looks cheap, sort of like the average £50/$50 keyboard you can buy for your kid from the toy department or the electrical part of the local supermarket.

I like new website, a lot ! however, very slow to browse indeed. But looks really good and modern.
In the other side, I've noticed the following:
- A lot of synths disappeared from catalog (there are almost more arrangers than synths)
- Example: a replacement for MicroX & X50 should come (there is no lightweight / performance/ entry level synth compared to Yamaha or Roland, i.e.)
- iOS apps are on frontpage (wait for Gadget including midi out to use with Kronos) (wait for other apps to offer better midi implementation)
- Korg is clearly oriented to a new popular market. This is not a problem if they keep a 'pro' and 'semi pro' line on top. If not...
- Analog is definetively back, and that's great !
Just wait and see, but I do really want to know more about the future of Korg.
Cheers !

It all looks "Fashion over function" to me, lets hope the website isn't an indication of where Korg is heading.Ojustaboo wrote:My honest opinion just glancing at the main page, is it looks like Korg is aiming for a completely different market.

I think you could get a solid weighted 88 midi controller and potentially not be able to tell that you were using an iPad. Personally i have tons of great sounds on my computer and i dont mind using it on stage, especially given todays computers reliability and great software options.billysynth wrote:I partly agree with you Kevin. But I think hardware keyboards will still be required for pub bands, pro keyboard players of jazz, progressive rock. I cant see these guys going on stage with the cheaper technology, ipad, notebooks, software, and those other cheapie products for quick music production.
Just a general perusal of bands on youtube and you can see there seems to be a combination of hardware users and the 'other' mob.
As to whether any new workstation is released by the main manufacturers we'll just have to wait and see. I'm not sure if these companies give a profit and loss statement? Maybe some sort of indication of their profits/loss can be a clue to speculating a release of something new or not?
Regards
Billy
It always comes down to that matter of preference though. i love my hardware on stage, but personally i haven't made that dive into the iPad music production realm.
I think the music workstation keyboard category will be around for a while longer but i dont find it hard to imagine a day where companies will either produce software or midi hardware, with computers/tablets being the sound module of the future. Its not necessarily what i want, just a thought that crosses my mind.
I wish yamaha and roland would step up their game, i think everyone wins with a little competition, it pushes the envelope.

The search engine does not work on mine either. Frankly, there's only two words to describe the new website. It sucks. Why every website designer going thinks you have to tweak/change/make it new and blingy is beyond me. There's some value to "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." This looks like a kid's candy store, not a pro audio company.michelkeijzers wrote:It looks beautiful, but:
- It's very slow,
- The search page does not work on my computer at work (old version of IE).
- I also cannot find the arrangers.

Just one more reason why I think it sucks - you can't find what you're looking for. It was slightly difficult before, or at least more difficult than it needed to be. The search command doesn't even work.xp50player wrote:It looks like they tried to BuzzFeed it, with menus popping out from everywhere. I prefer the corporate/functional version, where I could find what I was looking for.
