Can I upgrade the Intel D510MO in my Kronos to the new type

Maybe someone already with monitor and keyboard hooked up to the MB directly (seen it on this forum somewhere I think) can have a look at POST or maybe BIOS itself, then compare the verion ID with offcial ones on intel web?
Not sure whether local electronics shop can always help (e.g. fried chipset for some reason)

Kronos 88 , Kurzweil PC1x, PC361,
Hi
My kronos is in the process of being repaired and the symptoms are the same as the last time i.e. fails to start-up and they replaced the motherboard.
I have asked the service center if this motherboard has gone faulty again to put in the Kronos X board so will let you know what happens when it arrives back home.

Just to update this message it would appear that korg are fitting a kronos X motheboard to my kronos as my motherboard was found faulty.lotty1 wrote:Hi

Does they fitted D525MW without any other changes? I mean, if there is original Intel BIOS in new motherboard?lotty1 wrote:Just to update this message it would appear that korg are fitting a kronos X motheboard to my kronos as my motherboard was found faulty.lotty1 wrote:Hi

The memory different and the motherboard is slightly smaller but that's all as I understand it.SynthKeyWizard wrote:Does they fitted D525MW without any other changes? Memory difference is don't matter. Would be good to know if motherboard have proprietary BIOS. In that case - we can't simply replace MB with another one.lotty1 wrote:The memory different and the motherboard is slightly smaller but that's all as I understand it.SynthKeyWizard wrote:Does they fitted D525MW without any other changes? If your old motherboard still works try changing them over. In theory it should be possible to change it back again if the new MB not recognized.SynthKeyWizard wrote:Memory difference is don't matter. I'm assuming your Kronos is out of warranty.
Beware though seek more advice before undertaking this work

It was suggested that the KRONOS Sub-System Firmware Version 6.04 update (available for download on the Korg web site) is all that's needed to make the standard off-the-shelf Intel motherboards operate in the KRONOS...the same 6.04 update is used in the KRONOS and the KRONOS X, so it works with both motherboards...has anybody actually installed a stock Intel motherboard successfully in the KRONOS? ???

The Sub-System Firmware is for a sub-system - not the motherboard BIOS.dfahrner wrote:It was suggested that the KRONOS Sub-System Firmware Version 6.04 update (available for download on the Korg web site) is all that's needed to make the standard off-the-shelf Intel motherboards operate in the KRONOS...the same 6.04 update is used in the KRONOS and the KRONOS X, so it works with both motherboards...has anybody actually installed a stock Intel motherboard successfully in the KRONOS? ???

this thread seems somewhat lively.
I have zero concerns about the mobo at this time. I would expect the service centers here in the US to have access to a supply of mobos for some time.
If I were in a country where there is some concern, and I planned to keep my Kronos for 5-10 yrs, it would seem a phone call to the local service center would be the first step. See what they say and go from there.
I also think, again my opinion, is that a successor to the Kronos will happen in 1-2 years. I would likely buy that making any potential worries about the mobo or any part, a moot point.
Trying to put some perspective on this.

So does the motherboard in the KRONOS use the standard Intel BIOS, or does it have to be replaced with a custom Korg BIOS?danatkorg wrote:The Sub-System Firmware is for a sub-system - not the motherboard BIOS.dfahrner wrote:It was suggested that the KRONOS Sub-System Firmware Version 6.04 update (available for download on the Korg web site) is all that's needed to make the standard off-the-shelf Intel motherboards operate in the KRONOS...the same 6.04 update is used in the KRONOS and the KRONOS X, so it works with both motherboards...has anybody actually installed a stock Intel motherboard successfully in the KRONOS? ???

I can't answer this kind of question, sorry. Service for the KRONOS must be done via authorized service centers, and they have access to all of the necessary information.dfahrner wrote:So does the motherboard in the KRONOS use the standard Intel BIOS, or does it have to be replaced with a custom Korg BIOS?danatkorg wrote:The Sub-System Firmware is for a sub-system - not the motherboard BIOS.dfahrner wrote:It was suggested that the KRONOS Sub-System Firmware Version 6.04 update (available for download on the Korg web site) is all that's needed to make the standard off-the-shelf Intel motherboards operate in the KRONOS...the same 6.04 update is used in the KRONOS and the KRONOS X, so it works with both motherboards...has anybody actually installed a stock Intel motherboard successfully in the KRONOS? ???
