Does any one know where I could get Indian MIDI songs for KORG?
Especially those like using authentic indian styles which are present in the download?
The Yamaha XG MIDI files do not play well on on the KORG, for some reason, sounds get skewed.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Usaraiya

Not sure where you can get same

However from what i've noticed is that the indian kit on the yamaha has their drum sounds in a specific position across the keyboard and the Korg (no indian kit) has similar tablas etc but positioned differently. Therefore when midi triggering the programmed keys (as per yamaha set) but now on the different korg layout, you gonna have wrong perc inst sounding.

1) You could create a new kit using the korg samples and position them according to the yamaha layout and on loading the style to korg for editing, remap the drum kit bank... but korg lacks alot of the percussions.

2) We could have someone with time on their hands to sample out the entire yamaha indian kit, then recreate same in pa3x and make available for all... would be nice however must say the the positioning of the sounds on the yamaha does not make it very easy to play as you would need to Octave up or down to reach different sounds in the kit.

3) You could record only the loops of the yamaha and transfer to pa3x and use the audio grooves/time splice feature to create the same loops in the 3x with the option to marginally change tempo etc. This can be used in the actual styles too and is explained in detail in the AE manual.

or

4) The best suggestion would be that we users sample the exact instruments precisely with multi velocity switching samples for better/realistic sound as indian percussions sound very different with every hit (withing its limit and timbre) ... that would bring the kit to life as the yamaha is merely a get-by kit with no mutisamples therefore no added expression or realistic live feel.

Just my thoughts

Thanx

Excellent review of the problem, Veeren. However, the workaround appears tedious, but should work.
Thanks.
