This is one of the best ideas I've heard this year!

I love this idea.
I play Bandeoke and have a potential song list of over 600 songs. Sometimes I do this in a full band situation where I need to supply Keys, Brass, Strings and special effects. Other times it is a 3 piece (drums, guitar and me), so for these I need to provide the bass as well. I guess that in the future I may even do solo gigs, so would need the drums also.
I have made a start, but have only got approximations to the sounds that I need (ie. they're not bad but they could definitely do with some tweaking).
I think that each song should come with some documentation explaining the mappings for each keyboard zone and maybe some playing hints (controllers etc.).
This could be an awsome project but would definitely need to be managed well to get real value from it.

great idea,
but before everyone puts a lot of effort in building websites and PCG DLLs i would suggest to do a test on this forum. Just open a thread where everyone can share his own programs used for cover songs.
That way you have a series of sound to start with and you will know if enough people are willing to share their own sounds.
I have a feeling that not many sounds will be shared, so in my opinion it's good to open a thread for that where people can share there own sounds to see if i'm wrong with that feeling (i really hope i'm wrong

The DLL (well I can make it a DLL quite easily) can be used as basis for the PCG. It can read not only read/write Kronos (X) PCG files, but also Oasys, M50, M3, all Tritons and Karma PCG files.
Also if 'only' like 1000 programs are shared, it might be more easy to just create one big PCG file and an explanatory document how to use it.
I have not planned anything for documentation of patches, but it might seem like a nice idea.
Also in the wish list of PCG Tools is already the idea to create a controller description list, however this is not that easy to create (lots of parameters, and different per workstation type).

Sharing sounds
Count me in. I do plenty of cover sequences and am constantly having to tweak/develop sounds that are critical to a song, and ususally a song that everyone knows and expects to hear that sound.

I play a lot of covers too and have some decent patches I could share (Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Rhianna, Katy Perry, LMFAO and that sort of thing). Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but club owners like to see people dancing and drinkingSanderXpander wrote:I play a lot of covers. Made some sounds I could share. Not happy enough with all of them but some are pretty good. Sounds like a nice project!

I did the same thing for Just Dance. I have something close using the AL-1 with a square wave and a square LFO with frequency at 99. It's just not obnoxious enough...yet. All the other sounds for Just dance I'm really happy with. For Poker face I already had them set up on my Juno-G so I'm not going to reinvent the wheel on that one. But all of those were relatively easy to get.SanderXpander wrote:Sounds like we have the same song list. I'd be interested to see/hear how you made the distinctive hard leads in Pokerface and Just Dance, by the way. I ended up just sampling it from the intro of Just Dance.
The squeeky sound in Party Rock was fun to do

I would be interested in the sound of Narcotic / Liquido. Normally I don't mind about the exact sound but in this case it's really part of the song I think.

I think the database would be a great idea and would love to contribute.
As to Qrobinez's comment, there is already a place where you can place your programs:

true, korgpatches.com is a good site for that, so we could start already with sending in patches.pfrocha wrote:qrobinez wrote:great idea,

What could be a good idea is to create a song request thread where people can say which sounds they are looking for based on the songname and people can upload their own sounds to korgpatches.com for that song.
Maybe you can ask korgpatches.com if they can open a 'Kronos Song presets' section for that purpose. That would save a couple of you the trouble of spending lots of hours building a comparable sound sharing site.
