Hold it- I have just found out the x-box is 16 step. This could be the best option- Not 'real' analogue though- Will check it out further- Thanks!

If you're dead set on analogue, have a look at some of the stuff from MFB. There might be something or a combination of things that will meet your needs. I'm not very familiar with their gear range but played with the MFB 503, I was well impressed with its punch but programming it is complicated (much like using the DSI mopho). They're range is definitely tailored more towards modular analogue type systems. Prices aren't insane like the tempest.

To leo.C, regarding mac compatibility issues:
I'm assuming you've had a chance to download OpenElectribeEditor and also have a card to save stuff onto. I might be able to help if you can explain where you're running into difficulty. I know I was having trouble dragging the samples into OEE despite being the right specs (44.1khz + 16-bit <mono>) but I managed to work around this somehow by opening/resaving them as .wav files in Audacity, which seemed to fix that issue.

Ah sorry, didn't know you were after a sequencer unit. Is this for live performance? You could easily use a DAW on your computer to sequence the midi otherwise.
To thehighesttree - I've been trying to use the ElectribeEditor for the last few days actually. I've had a few problems (sorry to highjack the thread):
1. I can't create new ESX files, have tried the fix on the google forums but to no avail.
2. I can't seem to clear out the first 250 (or so) slots in the ESX file. I can only fill the slots with an 'S' before them. I'm not sure if this is to do with them being reserved for factory content.
3. On a couple of occasions I've loaded new samples onto the Electribe and made a pattern and then when I've turned off the unit and turned back on only the Factory samples remain, the new ones have disappeared.
Any help or clarification would be appreciated. On another note, please see my other post in this section of the forum regarding a midi sync issue with logic, I really want to sort this as I can't use the electribe for drums which is what I bought it for.

It is for live. I should have said- I don't use computers in my set up. I shall have a look at the MFB 503 though. It's ok about the hijack- I had a terrible time trying to make sense of the editor- and that was on a PC.

Sorry. Forgot to say the MFB 503 is an analogue drum machine only. I had a closer look over the MFB site and their products. Didn't look like there was exactly what you're looking for all-in-one. Still worth having a look at their site.

That's ok-it was a decent shout- thanks for taking the time anyway. It looks like what I was looking for does not actually exist- maybe some day. Thanks all.

Here are a few mod kits for the Monotribe I have found. I don't know if these are the greatest however it would be nice to see what others think and have seen. I thought of getting this one when I finally decide to get a Monotribe:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Korg-Monotribe- ... 231c1b8cd3
And then I saw this one which actually makes a little more sense:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MIDI-to-Korg-Mo ... 231ae41ce7
But really when it comes to cost the first kit I posted makes a but more sense in my opinion because of the added flexibility of in and out.
It is a shame that Korg designers didn't think to do this...it's like they are just giving away money to smarter people hmmmm

Thanks for that- Whats the second one all about? What would plug in where? It is a male socket- like the ones you normally insert in to a midi socket. Any ideas?

Here you have a complete LP made on an ESX, using Ableton just for recording tracks and mixing them, just comp and eq, no effects.

And here, the live version of some of the tracks from the album, using only the ESX:

The second one plugs into your sequencer midi out. You then plug a cable into it with the other end going into your Monotribe.

There is a new option- 16 step analogue groovebox that can save patterns etc- It's called the Eowave Magama- not sure when it's due to hit the shops though- I think the rrp is about £500- Any thoughts?
Monotribe MIDI Mod

I've been reading a bunch about MIDI mods and it seems like this one is by far the best and most reliable - providing MIDI note control and start/stop as well as bpm syncing:
http://www.amazingmachines.com.br/produ ... tribe.html
It requires you to open the case but there's no soldering - it plugs into an open jack on the board. You can run wires with the MIDI ports out through the battery casing if you don't want to do any drilling - and they will just kind of dangle but work perfectly fine. Or you can drill holes and mount the ports in the side of the box.

I've seen that too Marcus, on their site is a great YT video of Sonic Labs showing how to install it and then reviewing it. It seems really, really easy to do and the benefits of using the mod look like they outweigh the voiding of any warranty.
I think I'm gonna order one next month (just shelled out for the Monotribe this month so I'll have to wait a while for anything else).
The price seems quite high and works out at around £56 (converted from $88 ) but I'm sure it's worth it.

Yeah... the midi one is pricy but does seem worth it. However: do NOT shell out the cash for the NastyMono from the same company. It's nothing but a single potentiometer and a couple of plugs/jacks, as far as I can tell - you could build one for less than $10
I set up the same thing just using a line mixer and it is pretty fun - you can get some seriously grungy feedback sounds
