the modular seems pretty difficult to find about on the internet,
The Nord Lead is straight forward VA synth
could you define what you mean by straight forward in this context?

There are many kinds of synthesis. Virtual analog synthesis is a software emulation of the oldest kind of synthesis, subtractive analog synthesis of the form established by Moog, Buchla and others. Subtractive analog starts from classic oscillator waveforms which are put through filters, gates, and effects, which can all be modulated by envelopes, LFOs, and modulation matrixes (patches and virtual patches). So when I refer to a straight forward VA synth, I'm referring to a synth that emulates this classic form of analog synthesis. But there are many other kinds of synthesis, such as FM synthesis, sample synthesis, wavetable synthesis, granular synthesis, morphing synthesis, physical modeling synthesis, and various hybrids. Besides the kinds of synthesis, there are also different synth structures for how the various elements can be plugged together to form the signal path. Modular synthesizers are the most flexible because the routing is not fixed as part of the synth structure, since the modules all work independently and are not part of the signal path until the synth programmer provides the patch by connecting the modules. The advantage of modular design is the huge variation and flexibility to make unique audio paths for synthesis, but the drawback is that the synth does nothing without someone who knows how all the modules work to synthesize a particular sound. The semi modular architecture has certain common paths already connected, to reduce the amount of patching required, but still with some modular patch points for the elements. Non modular synths typically have a fixed signal path with only certain points defined for patches, and often no ability to completely alter the existing signal path.

The Nord Modular is a software implementation of a modular design with multiple kinds of synthesis. The Nord Lead is a software implementation of a non modular analog synthesizer. Therefore, the Nord Modular provides a much wide range of synthesis than possible with the Nord Lead. Yes, the Modular G2 is much harder to find than the Nord Lead. Most of the best synths are harder to find than the common ones.
