Legacy VA patch conversion is much more useful for me.
I definitely want to include as much as possible in the conversion and since I used to have a Triton Extreme 61 it very near and dear to my heart- thus the precedence of its inclusion.

The Polysix conversion is the best place for me to start since its program and bank size in both the Legacy Collection and in Kronos EXi programs is small enough to be an ideal starting point. I'm about 90%+ on the conversion and have figured out what to omit and what to include.

To start with, I'm excluding the unison/detune functions from the automated conversion since it crosses from the EXi program data over into the common parameter area and I want to be as concise as possible right out of the gate. Ultimately, though, I want to include this and all of the effect parameters as well.
I'm also keeping all of the extra LFO and EG parameters pegged to the Init parameters (from an EXi Init program) since the Legacy Collection doesn't make use of these anyhow.

I'll continue to keep everyone posted but keep those ideas coming!! Thanks much and happy music-making! :)

I have a Korg Triton Extreme 61 and M50 (61), and some older but those are not really interesting for conversion purposes anymore.

If you want me to test something on one of these models, just ask.

I've heard from a few individuals who would like to be able to port DW-/EX-8000 patches over to the Kronos. I've been working on this aspect of the conversion since there are far fewer parameters for the DW-/EX-8000 than for even the Polysix (51 versus 316). So far it looks like MOD-7 will be the engine of choice for DW-/EX-8000 patches using 2 instances of MOD-7 in a program slot to allow for 2 PCM oscillators plus noise.
So far I've procured the full list of factory patches for the DW-8000, the EX-8000 and even the "bonus" patches that came with the MEX-8000- all in SysEx format. I have access to 64 of these patches as audio files to aid in the conversion process (getting the range of parameters and properly mapping the waveforms from the DW-/EX-8000 to the Kronos counterparts). Does anyone have any custom DW-/EX-8000 patches in SysEx along with audio files of a few key hits from at least a few? If so, I would love to get a hold of these files to aid in the conversion.

Thanks very much and happy tweaking!

Great work and I hope people with a DW/EX8000 will be helpfull.

This would be a real breakthough but if someone would create such a tool I cannot imagine it would be free since it is a huge amount of work to do.

Would LOVE to see 01/W conversion. The waveshaping is in Kronos, and I have a bunch of patches for my 01W/R. FS1R for the MOD7 engine too!

I've been starting simple and have a mostly-working KLC Polysix-to-Kronos and back converter with just a few bugs to get out. I've got most of the code ready to go on the MS-20 (KLC-to-EXi) next. It's been an invaluable experience for learning the layout of Kronos and I'm hoping most of the information and knowledge I've gained will be applicable to other instruments and/or engines.

That having been said, I've not yet dedicated any "cycles" to the task of M3 or Triton conversion; but, these are high on my list. The benefit to doing something like M3 or Triton versus, say a DW-8000, is that it's fairly trivial to map the entire voice or instrument to just one engine. In that regard I expect the M3 and Triton will be next on my list.

The 01/W will be a bit more involved (given that Kronos already starts out of the box with most of the M3 and Triton sample sets already labeled consistently; not so much with the 01/W). I think it would take a bit more crowdsourcing to truly capture the essence of the 01/W and be able to apply it programmatically.

I'd put Polysix KLC<->EXi conversion at close to 98% right now with MS-20 and about 75-80%. I'll post an update once these are done and I should be ready to tear into the M3 and Triton!

Thanks everybody!

Great to hear from your progress ... We're looking forward to it!

Actually conversion is also on my wish list, but since it is a huge task and not as much intopic for PCG Tools I probably never will start with it.

Maybe we can combine our features later in time ... it would be cool to have an instant copy/paste from e.g. an M3 PCG file to a Kronos PCG file.

cynkh,

I am very interested in backward compatibility. I am working on a utility to convert Triton Studio Combis to the Kronos. Maybe over time it could be expanded to be more comprehensive, or integrated into your program.

This one is also on my wish list ... however, not converting the references to the programs (that's impossible) but converting the 'structure' and maybe the help of a mapping table.

Legacy to Kronos would be awesome, particularly since it is so much easier/faster to program with Legacy on PC.

I'd even considering buying this app at the right price.

I'm definitely very interested in this type of project as well. I really do love that Korg has more-or-less integrated their entire history into the Kronos and I'd like to see it leveraged as such.

Thanks!

I'd actually be very interested in converting the Triton-style arpeggiators into KARMA GE's, RPPR (for Triton as well as Kronos) or some other such format which would work with Kronos. I still miss the arpeggiator programming interface of my Triton Extreme! I may end up buying an 88-key Triton eX for this and other reasons!

Cheers!

Right now Korg has broken up the Legacy suite into the individual programs and they are available for download from their online store for $50 USD (not sure what the Euro price is right now). If I didn't already have both the digital and analog editions I would certainly be grabbing them now!

I'm basically done with the Polysix portion except for the effects section and a few other parameters which don't map 100% accurately. I'm hoping to have an alpha version available for download for Polysix KLC<->EXi within a few days and I'll post the link right into this thread when it's ready.

Thanks everyone for the enthusiasm and support! :) Cheers!
