That's not true. It is only at the program level that EXi and HD-1 require separate types of banks. In Combis, you can mix them up and even route the HD-1 audio into EXis - using their filters, etc.

Can any or all engines be loaded into various seq tracks?
Yes, even via MIDI program changes while the song plays.

A program bank can be either HD-1 or EXi.

So you could have Program bank A as HD1, and B as EXi. So you could only edit/'make' HD1 sounds in program bank A, and you could use ms20/polysix/cx3/etc in program bank B.

Programs themselves can consist of two instruments - so in the HD1 bank you can only use two instances of HD1 in a program, whereas in the EXi bank you could use any combination of EXi's in a program - for example a program that layers MS20 and Polysix or runs EP1 through MS20.


But you can still use sounds from either bank in any combi (or indeed song).
