Yes, it would help big time. Could it be done?
Shakil wrote:I have seen some systems where the system provides a search result before starting a new topic.
Would be a great feature. Once you worded the new topic, before posting it would give a list of hits using the words in the new post - options being 'save my draft topic and browse results' and 'thanks, I want to post anyways'.

If one saved the topic as draft, he/she could look it up from private messages or similar and post without further questions (presumeably the candidate waded through at least some of the query results).

TC Electronic does that and few others, you write a topic and before
you Submit you cant, first you have to review the similar answers.

I kind of enjoyed reading Nedim topic names (and comments). They are very funny. And I don't think he was venting, just being a bit sarcastic.

Sharp, thanks for the info. Any help you might need, I'm all fingers. If have some skills with photoshop on logos and the sort. Just let me know OK?

Cheers

Sharp wrote:Hi Guys.

To a point a pin has been stuck in the development of the forum for a while due to our CPU load on the server and our massive bandwidth usage. KORG Forums needs a dedicated server, not a shared server, so we have had to do things to keep resources down while plans and technical issues were sorted out.

A dedicated server is pretty expensive and since this is a non-profit website, well.... money doesn’t grow on trees and so a lot of discussions have had to take place backstage here.

Lots of progress has been made here on all this and soon we will be moving to our own server. When that happens development will return to full steam ahead again, and I would hope that we will also see the return of 250,000 + archived posts. This is very important information that once is back online, all newbies will be strongly advised to use the search engine again.

KORG Forums was always seen as a very technical website and we need to go back to being that again. The system worked in the past and there is no reason why it won't work again in the future.

In short the plan is.... Get the server issues solved, return all the archived posts, advise newbies to use the search engine again... and then start developing the forums full steam ahead. The download section is also going to change big time.

So hang in there guys. I've not dropped the ball at all here.

This is also your forum guys, so please feel free to suggest things you would like to see improved bearing in mind what I've just said above and what I've already got planned.

There's also nothing stopping you guys for starting some advanced and heavy technical threads either you know :)

Kind Regards
Sharp.
Great news man! :) 8) Somethan to look forward to for sure! Its great to know that though Korg is not always there for us users that this forum is and is constantly getting new updates and OSs! :D

I thought it might be a good idea maybe to have a section of where people can see a list of all the Third Party companies that create Instruments/Samples for the Korg Keyboards and such.

cheers and thanks a ton Sharp for all your doing man...its a great work!

No male keyboardist will ever read a manual BEFORE he gets into trouble.

The correct sequence if something doesn't works on your synth is:

1) call the shop and tell them you are gonna return it

2) switch it off and on again

3) play another synth

3/b) buy another piece of gear

4) complain with a friend

5) ask another friend "if he wants to swap his motif for your m3", or viceversa

6) post the problem on a forum

7) undergo surgery

8 ) enlist in the Legion Etrangere, trying to forget the problem

9) read a manual

Hahaha, that's too true.

As a fairly large synth noob myself, I'm on the forum a lot. However, I've got to admit that seeing the same question asked over and over again is rather obnoxious, especially when trying to search for a specific answer. Although these duplicates really do need to be deleted regularly, I don't think the moderators need to waste their time sorting through all the posts that come in deleting those that don't need to be there. :?

So, what if there was a NOOB Section to each forum, where people could post their dumb repeated questions? This part of the forum could be cleared regularly, maybe monthly. And any decent questions could then be nominated for transfer to the regular forums. Just an idea, any thoughts?

There are no noobs on synth forums.

Synth forums include the highest density of geniuses ever seen anyplace west of Harvard medical school and east of the Space Shuttle User Manual editors' office,

arranged in a neat hierarchy which starts on the top with

High Priests Connected with the Synth Producer,

and trickles down through layers of

Shortcut Gurus,

Skilled Engineers,

Devote Buyers of Everything Kkkk or Mmmg or Yhhm [substitute for name of hardware producer],

Friends of a Guy Who Works at Kkkk (or Mmmg etc),

True Believers,

Men of Peace Who Just Don't Like Forums Being Disrupted by Harsh Critics,

then (slowly descending from heavens),

Shocked Newcomers Who Had Really Believed the Hype and Feeel Disappointed,

Sneering Sceptics Still Upgrading The Hardware They Don't Like,

Disgruntled Former Lovers,

and, still nearer to the Hell,

various sorts of

Trolls,

Flamers,

Yhmmh Devotes [substitute for the name of Other synth producer]

and Russian Long-legged Green-eyed Undercover Agents.

In a parallel but connected Universe,

lurk in the Dark the:

Former Forum Members

Former Gurus Who Got Enough of All That Crap,

Melancholy Wrecks Who Turned Back to Acoustic Piano,

Young Fathers Who Sold the Synths After Their Life Was Changed Forever by the Puppy.

See?

No Noobs there.

There is just a minuscule minority of people who will enter the forum saying "I am a noob" for about 15 minutes the first time they post something,

but even these people will quickly become experts and will start bragging in about 30 minutes, as soon as a "younger" forum member enters the discussion.

So, like the Hell of modern theologists,

the Noob section could exist but would be empty, by definition.

Haha, me too.

And yeah, you're right about that one ozy. A noob section would never work... :( I guess I'll take my walk of shame now back to the Radias/R3 forum  where I can continue to be smarter than a rocket scientist.

Lawl. Sorry

Although I must admit I'm still slightly confused :? because noob was removed from the list, so I guess I must fall under Russian Long-legged Green-eyed Undercover Agents

I feel like I belong or belonged to ALL those categories on time or another,

including the "Russian Undercover" thing

(that happened in Lebanon I guess 8) ... Or was it a Jazz Festival in Ireland :? ? Or a softball tournament in Portugal? All I remember is that I was drunk at the time, so the eyes were probably red rather than green  )
