I also have a fast PC, with about 4Gb of Ram.
1 to 2Gb should be fine for the masses.
1 to 2 Gb provides more of a performance gain, compared to a huge internet speed gain.
Your speed should be achieved primarily through your broadband connection.
Broadband speed and a fast PC, will allow more applications to be running,
while you're surfing, with minimal or no slowdown.

I also use Firefox and overall the loading speed of this site is relatively fast.
There are rare loading issues, but that's usually server related.

Opera, which is supposed to a relatively fast browser, is slower than Firefox on my PC.
So I removed it, and only use Firefox.
My point is that you can have a fast PC, but software, server and other issues can make having
a fast PC a mute point, if those issues aren't resolved.

Regarding signing on to a site, you'll never have to sign on when using Firefox, as with most browsers,
the sign-on info can be stored.
I click on my Korg Forum bookmark and in 2 seconds, I'm in.

Also, if you have bloated anti-virus software, like the Norton stuff, it could slow down your browsing.
I basically use 4 free products on my PC. They are all pretty fast to me.
1. Firefox
2. AVG Anti-virus
3. Microsoft's Windows Defender
4. Zone Alarm Free Firewall.

I've tried a combination of things, but the above combination gives me speed, security and less bog on my
computer's resources.

Speaking of browsers, you can have as many as you like on your PC.
They don't interfere with each other and they don't start up when you turn on your PC.
They have to be manually accessed, which is good, so that you don't have them running on their own
in the background.

My vote is also for Firefox, for speed and safety.
It takes a little getting used to, for anyone that uses IE.
But it's a well designed and customizable browser.

Just my 4 cents.

I have heard Windows PC people babble for years about Antivirus Firewalls

It sounds like a form of a transmittable contagious disease and I have always stayed far away from these folks

Any issues with Firefox with certain websites....? Or with downloading?

Thanks. 8)
I have both running on my machine and the only problem I've encountered is... Firefox messes with my audio interface and has a lower graphic quality.

Hmmm surely you have antivirus software on your MAC! Not only is it available, it is becoming recommended more and more, especially since the Apple user base is increasing. I have Symantic on mine.

And it will not be long before firewalls will be a factor as well.

This having been said, it is still more secure than either my XP or Vista machines.

The non-tech...Me..,

I have used Firefox, Thunderbird, and others from Mozilla..Years!! ..If I keep firewls and auto prog. cleans up to date,..I now have NO problems at ALL with virus/spy or pop-ups inc late load..etc..etc..nada none!! All my probs are of my own making..through mistakes...(and I am good at that...)

I have the stuff Tritex4 recs (I believe the tech said the same names..)...and also the spybot, Ad-Aware and free clean progs ..I have mine on 24/7 because of a lot of official traffic for my wifes former job..and updates, cleaning, etc. are scheduled for 2 AM...I am the only fly in this machine and do goof a lot...now at 1.??somthin gig..(I guess..I don't do that stuff the comp guy does...)

Hey John,

I've got an old-solid iBook G4 running without a single problem of security.
BTW, I've been on the net with my XP computer without an antivius software for about 6 months: my home router is well configured so I don't have security issues...at the moment I've started using an antivirus software, but nothing more than that, the firewall is included into the router.

I ran a few years with...nada...period...All was fine (XP 512 e-machine)..

Then one day the whole house (of cards) fell..and I almost had an unusuable computer permanently!!!...(we have a real sharp tech here...and he removed and replaced a few minor items and cleaned, and "re-did" whatever they do to the internal drive...)

He put a suite of market freebies on for me...and now I never have trouble...
The Mozilla stuff seems to me to be the big deal, along with the AVG free...and new "free" firewalls and spy progs.are great..it just never slows, and seldom when I check, does it even have one or two sneaks in the drive..

(All mine is run auto, as I simply won't deal with doing it myself...won't ever stop what I am doing for maint...)
