It may be inconvenient, but I'd recommend disabling all of the other midi related drivers in hardware manager. Don't delete them or they will just get reinstalled on reboot when the hardware is detected. Then only setup the Korg USB driver for the Radias and not the M3. The goal is to eliminate as many potential conflicts as possible to isolate the problem. Also, if you have another computer/laptop without midi drivers, try that one just to see if the Korg USB driver works with that one. That will help eliminate the synth USB port as being the source of the problem.

No. Only the Windows synth ones show up. Please dumb down a post and tell me how to force it to recognize the r3 midi port.

I tried this and it did not work. I dont have another computer so I cant test it. It is very strange that it just will not work..... I have to pass on any upgrade or editing functions that require USB connection.

Hey KORG! Please make the editors and updates work via MIDI for us that just cant get the USB to work.

Windows can only have 10 instances of midi over usb....
I had this problem with some yamaha usb drivers....
I has to go into windows registry and delete duplicate entries due to my computer having multiple usb ports....
You may have exceeded your number of Windows USB MIDI items (happens to the best of users). This occurs when you have more then 10 instances of MIDI drivers, windows will not allow anymore (strange Windows does not provide you with a warning) This can happen when you do not have a consistent layout for you USB devices... each time you plug a device into a different port Windows reinstalls the driver - eventually you have reached the limit of 10 and no more will be allowed.

This seems like the problem that happens when the number of MIDI devices has been exceeded in the windows Registry.
Unfortunately windows installs a Registry entry every time you connect a new device or reconnect an existing device to a different port.
The result is that the Registry slots are all used and the new driver will not install...it seems like it does, but it doesn't work...sound familiar?
Here is the fix. Its not too hard but it takes digging into the Registry.

Via 'Start/Run', the Registry editor can be started by typing in 'regedit'. The relevant entries are in the path 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32' (left part of the window). In the right pane you will see the installed MIDI device driver entries (scroll down). If there is an error/problem, and all 10 entries for MIDI (midi to midi9) have already been created, duplicates can be safely deleted to allow room for the new driver entries.

To be absolutely safe, create a restore point before you launch regedit. Also remember to save the changes in regedit when you free up the midi entries.
Once you have freed up an entry, the USB driver will properly install and show up in all the places that have been missing previously.

Let us know when you get it working

Thanks. It actually started to work.....but then my Yamaha USB driver for the XS8 stopped working. I made a system restore point and could recover from that. I have all the 10 midi entries filled in the registry, and all is WDM drivers. I just have to find some that are not in use.

As sad as it is to say.....

I have always had problems with Yamaha over USB.....
I have a motif usb driver, and it has never worked properly ...
I have no problem with Edirol midi over usb , 2 instances of Creamware over asb, korg radias over asb, Arturia Analog Factory over usb,Arturia Dongles......
but as soon as I introduce the yamaha,....it chokes......regardless of the other usb instruments.....

I forget where I got the latest KORG usb driver from.. I know I had to hunt it down on google. I think I might of even got it from a korg site from another country because their website was easier to navigate... let me see if I can find it again....

Yeah, Also... once I figured out that you need to take the keyboard out of protect mode to write to it I was all set with the other issues I had.

I had the same problem. Turned out just the settings in the editor where wrong after i installed the editor.....

have you tried this?

Should be:

in preferences, MIDI IN should be set to RADIAS 1 KBD/KNOB
MIDI OUT should be set to RADIAS 1 SOUND.

(You can also fin this in the manual btw :-)

If anyone is still having problems, check this first before posting a complaint (it solved everything for me):

It is NOT enough to only install the supplied KORG USB-MIDI driver.
You need to install SEPARATE INSTANCES of it for every USB slot you plug your KORG instrument into. You do this by plugging your keyboard/Kaoss pad into the USB slot, then go to:

Programs/KORG/KORG USB MIDI driver tools/Install KORG USB MIDI device
(path may be different, depending on how you installed it, but this is default)

Then, after the driver has been installed for THIS PARTICULAR SLOT, your device will successfully communicate with the PC in editors/librarians and as a MIDI controller.
If you plug it into a different USB slot, you have to do this all over.

This fixed it for me. I deleted all the midi, mixer, wave (anything that had 0-9) in that folder. Previously I had installed virtual midi ports. Once I deleted these registry entries and reinstalled the yamaha midi driver the midi inputs/outputs magically appeared in the sound editor
