I have EXs 51, plus heaps more. If you use the "Virtual" stream setting, the Kronos RAM can stream around 20 gigs. OS and ROM are around 1 gig, so that leaves 2 gigs of RAM, which can stream up to 10 fold their size.

Note, I deselected the German and Japanese Grand pianos to make a ton of room. I'm just fine with the pianos in base ROM, EXs1, and EXs 4 (Internal B bank).

Right now, when I turn my Kronos on, I have available:

Samples from several Blue Zone libraries (Thin Blue Line, Metal, Heavy Metal, Scary, etc.), plus custom project sample sets.

Then some sounds from my E-MU and Yamaha sample libraries, which you can see in the pictures. Some boxes, like EXs193, are deselected until I need them for something.







My point for listing all this is to show how much you can actually load into the Kronos. I kind of chuckled when you said you didn't know how much more you could load, aside from EXs51!

I save a PCG and SEQ file with every project I do, because I usually program something, and I need to save it. If someone needs quick music for a commercial or industrial, I will resort to my factory PCG setup and use combis.

Most times, I'm using programs (not combis), so I save and load banks where I want. My usual go to PCG bank remains mostly intact, from project to project. I try to keep it cumulative, with all the changes I made, so I just load the PCG from the last project I worked on.

Right now, Int. A,B.C,D,.....and F are pretty close to the factory set. I have loaded in some of my fave individual sounds in some of those slots, such as overwriting some of the Bank A pianos, which are EXi (software instrument - AL-1, MS-20, STR-1, etc.) sounds.

Int E bank is made up of EXs (sample based) custom and favorite sounds. I will rework some of KApro's sounds, by removing velocity aftertouch and wavesequences, because I can greatly increase my polyphony that way. I often go through the multi-samples and just create my own programs. I use the E Bank sounds on most everything.

User A, B, C are EXs50 KSL sounds.
User D, F are EXs51 KUO sounds.
User E is Monumental Choir, Dimensional Cello, and various favorite sounds.
User G is EXs222 5th Element. After program 96, I have more favorite sounds, especially guitars, including Steve Stevens library.

User AA is factory, I believe. Drum kits, SFX, etc.
User BB is EXs16 Brass sounds.
CC, DD, EE are factory EXi synths.
User FF, GG are EXs131 - 134 Epic Composer sounds.

The new Iconic library sounds only have a few programs each, so I can put those in my Int E and other banks.

My Bluezone and E-MU sounds are used in drum kits. I even use double drum kit programs, so I can press SW 1 and switch between two different samples on every key.

I've also had to rearrange the wavesequence banks, so they correspond to the right 3rd party programs.

Hmm, what is the Steve Stevens library? I'm always on the lookout for better guitars.

It's an old release, 2004, I think. Probably very hard to find. No soundfonts with this. I would look for something more current that you don't have to sample every note yourself. You can't have mine.




There are quite a few guitar libraries in the Korg Shop, though.

This row format ISO contains Giga files and it's rather messy if trying to convert to SF2/SFZ and then to KMP for Korg models since you will be confused with
multiple existing multisamples that can't be easily translated to the proper stereo format and mapping !

I had made the correct translation and sound management for Kronos Programs 5 years ago and was a real bitch to achieve , for a customer via our service

are lower quality and mono samples ... just for the story.

I just got my Kronos 2 about a month ago so I haven't opened it up yet (because of warranty voiding issues). If I had a Kronos that was "close to death", I definitely would open it up and supercharge it with more modern computer technology. After all, at its heart is just an off-the-shelf x86 motherboard running LINUX on an old Intel Atom processor. What really pisses me off is that just opening the case voids the warranty. I checked with a local Korg Authorized repair center about how much it would cost for them to install a 2TB SSD, that I would provide, in the second drive bay in the Kronos. The labor charges amount to over 2x what I would have to pay for the drive. From YouTube videos that show the opening of the case and show access to the available drive bay, the job would take maybe 15 min and most of that would be in removing and replacing the screws that hold the bottom panel on. This is the kind of bullshit that oftem makes me regret purchasing new gear. Yes, you get the warranty on a pretty substantial investment, but you are also held hostage to service by a "qualified" technican probably a lot less "qualified" than yourself.
