E2 sampler - new firmware midi improvements? + sample time?

If sequencing external gear with the ES2 what happens with Part Mute? Does it silence the Part Volume (e.g. no effect), or filter off MIDI data in the Part's track?

Yes. When sequencing external gear: Part Mute will stop the MIDI signal to the external instrument.
