I guess I'm really lucky. I live in So. Indiana and we have a great locally owned music store called Far Out Music. The keyboard staff know the products they sell, which includes Korg, Yamaha, DSI, and Roland. I bought my Kronos from them. I also bought one of my first pro boards ( a brand new at that time, Ensoniq ESQ1) many years ago from the same store and salesman. They have the gear for hands on testing and do not get upset if you spend all the time you need doing that testing. In fact I'm trying out a Montage there tomorrow June 4th.

But I'm also 3 hours away from Sweetwater too. I attend their "Gearfest" event every year. I have purchased lots of items from them and my personal sales consultant Paul Allen has been a wonderful asset in my quest for gear at great prices. In my view I have the best of both worlds. If my local store doesn't have something I'm interested in I know I can get it at Sweetwater by the next day if I want it. With free shipping too.

I'm a fan of Sweetwater. Never had a problem.

Once I had an LED burn out on an audio interface 3 months after purchase. They shipped me a new one along with return shipping labels for the old one at no additional cost. They just have great service. My sales rep will spend more time on the phone with me if needed than any I have ever dealt with in person at a store.

I often go to a local Sam Ash to demo gear and then purchase from Sweetwater. Sam Ash has never been able to match the Sweetwater price but I give them a chance. It's always the sales tax that kills it.

I got my X 61 from B&H photo as a scratch & dent about a year before the Kronos 2 came out for $1999. When it arrived, it wasn't damaged at all. It was open box, and the keyboard was still wrapped in the factory plastic. The factory box was slightly damaged.

I like the idea of helping out small businesses, but I drove an hour and a half to get to my nearest Gibson warranty center because three inlays were popping out of my new (2014) Les Paul studio pro, and the tech only fixed one of them. I didn't realize it until I got it home. Now, I have to fix it myself.

I like Zzounds' payment plans too. I'm paying off my Sub 37 next month.

Guitar Center in St. Louis had pro keyboards in stock and matched my best internet price. Service was good and I was able to try a Kronos.
