New to the Korg world. As a longtime MOX and Motif user, finally purchased a New Kronos 73. Rehearsed my first gig with the new machine today (so much for slow transition)!

I've been seeking a case, as my old SKB 88 hard case is not tall enough for Kronos. Mainly carry to and from church twice a week. Loved the MOX6 because it was perfect candidate for a gig bag. But refuse to take this out of the home without decent protection.

I was considering the custom case described above, as well as the Gator GK-76 lightweight keyboard case (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessor ... board-case). Anyone have experience with this keyboard/case combo? I've got a truck so size doesn't really matter, though I'd prefer not lug around 100 lbs unnecessarily. I need decent protection as I move back and forth betwixt home and church twice a week, but I'm not touring/airlining with the setup. Too bad my existing case is about 1.5" too shallow top-to-bottom (I used it tonight, but I'm afraid of damaging any switches with squeezing the lid shut). Thanks for any advice!

That GK-76 is a soft-sided case. I had a soft case for my last keyboard, and it wasn't terribly practical.

Although it'll likely provide adequate protection for carrying around in your car, being a soft case means you can't stack anything on top of it. And if you ever do want to take it on a plane, or even just trust it to someone else to move, that would be risky.

Surprisingly, the fabric construction doesn't save you any weight - it's actually 5 lb. heavier than the custom case I got from Road Cases.

It's also wider and longer than you need. In the case, my K2-73 just fits sideways in the back of my minivan, laid across the top of my two amplifiers. Even an extra 2 inches would make that scheme impossible and require removing the back seats, so I'm glad the case is no larger than necessary.

One plus for the Gator, though: the zippered pocket is handy for cords and pedals.

Anybody know when the Korg cases will be available in the US?
And if you have any experiences with their cases, how would you rate them?

Thanks, bitflipper. I went ahead and purchased the GK-76, as I needed something to lug my new board to/from church with. I had used my hard SKB 88-key case, which was big and bulky, but about 1" too thin (think stuffing too many clothes into a suitcase), so I didn't want to risk damage to keyboard. Like you said, the GK-76 is crazily-enough barely a noticeable weight difference from the 88-key plastic behemoth. A few inches shorter, which definitely is noticeable though. It's padded inside, but seems fairly thin padding.

I really wish there were more padding, but as I'm only traveling to/from church 2-3 times/week, I think it will be sufficient. Primarily to prevent "house/truck rash" as I carry the monster up/down stairs and load into my covered pickup bed. I will keep the custom case you mentioned in mind should this end up not working out. Regarding the "plus" of this case (pockets for cords), in my mind that is not a usable feature since the top is soft, as I'm not sure I want the weight of cables, etc pressing down onto the most vulnerable part of the keyboard--the top! Thanks for sharing your experiences!

BTW, as a 13-yr airline pilot, I'd definitely caution against checking valuable musical equipment with ANY airline unless absolutely necessary...unless you have the thing insured against accidental human-caused damage :-)

Bitflipper, any chance you could be so kind as to take a pic or two of your board inside the custom case? I purchased the GK-76. It appears to be a well-made case, but it is indeed a little large. Not large enough to place damper/expression pedals inside, but just enough to make me wonder if I'd prefer a tighter fit. My main beef is that the padding is not high-density as in my hard case. It's very soft and plush, but that also means it likely doesn't absorb many bumps (very similar to padded dividers in a camera bag versus pool noodle-type foam). Also, it's much heavier than I thought a semi-soft case would be (I assumed the weight listed was packed/shipping weight).

I hate to send this back, but I'm starting to second-guess myself. Which options did you get on your hard case? How's the fit? How's the interior padding? How's the weight? Thanks for all the answers, bitflipper!!

Still wondering about the availability of these cases. I'm looking for HC-Kronos2 73 but although I they seem to be available in europe, I don't see any listed in the US.
Anybody know where I can get one stateside?

After some searching, I seem to have found it

http://www.adorama.com/kohckrns273b.htm ... e=dealtime

Unless you're willing to pay the steep price and shipping, going custom seems to be more cost effective. Roadcasesusa.Com gives free shipping.

Though I guess nothing beats a case specifically made for the Kronos 2 73

Thanks Falkus. Yea, the shipping cost blows it out of the water for me. I've always had custom Anvil/Calzone style cases made for my KBs but I want to minimize the size so that's why I was looking for this particular case.
BTW, it looks like Full Compass has the same price with free shipping.

I bought the Korg case for my Kronos K2 88 and I really like it.
The weight is only 27 pounds for the case.

Regards
Dan

Which case?

I'm also looking at the Road Cases USA case for my Kronos 2 88. I have two questions. First, what dimensions did you give them to get the case? Second, there are multiple level cases available, but I'd rather not get more case than I need. I'm only going to move my keyboard occasionally, in the back of an SUV. There will be other keyboards stacked on top of it. Is the Level 1 case adequate for this usage, or should I spring for a heavier duty case?

If you are referring to the one that Korg actually sells with the embossed Korg name, I'd not recommend it. I bought one when I had my X88 and was very disappointed with the fit and finish of it. The hinges and latches were of very poor quality and didn't line up, making it a struggle to close securely. The interior padding was a thin felt-like covering over a rigid fome that didn't offer a soft cushion. I sent it back and purchased a Gator case which in my opinion was of a much greater quality

I actually did get the Korg case (for the 73) and it's OK. Pretty similar to the SKB case I have for a 61 key Kurz. Padding and the latches seem adequate.
My one concern is that something will eventually need fixing and with SKB cases, they will always send a free replacement part. I sure don't expect that treatment from Korg.

Sorry, I should have been more explicit. I'm asking about the cases made by Road Cases USA (http://www.roadcasesusa.com/keyboard-ca ... and-model/) which were recommended earlier in this thread. There are several cases available that I'm considering:

Level 1: http://www.roadcasesusa.com/level-1-lit ... ard-cases/ - $239.00
Level 2: http://www.roadcasesusa.com/level-2-roa ... ard-cases/ - $259.00
Level 3: http://www.roadcasesusa.com/level-3-mod ... ard-cases/ - $289.00
Level 4: http://www.roadcasesusa.com/level-4-air ... -4-or-3-8/ - $299.00 or $349.00, depending on the thickness of the wood

All prices include wheels because I'm not a weight lifter. So the first question is which one should be purchased for use transporting in an SUV on an occasional basis, but which will also have other keyboards stacked on top, also in cases. I'd prefer not to spend too much money for a case, but definitely don't want to spend too little.

All the cases require actual dimensions to be supplied when ordering (they're all custom built), so the second question was what dimensions you gave (assuming you bought one). They claim that the dimensions on company web sites aren't always all that accurate.

Do yourself (and your back) a favour and find one of these - old style Gator case with TWO handles so all the weight is not through one arm as in the new ones.
No idea why they changed, this is a great design ergonomically:

If you live in Canada, contact Clydesdale Custom Cases and get one made for you. I work there and I use one form my k73.
