3 Weird Things in Style Edit Mode

Post by patpsc »

Hello guys,

I'm scratching my head and still don't understand the following issues I get when creating a style (in Style Edit mode), hopefully someone know why it happens and how to correct it:

1. The very first bass note is wrong when starts playing it, even when playing outside of the style edit mode.

2. All notes in a track (just one or two Acc tracks but not all) sounds wrong (in the wrong key/scale?) in Event Edit mode but are playing correct when getting out of the event edit mode. This happens even though the main Chord Key is set correctly for each track.

3. Somehow, the main Chord Key of some tracks was automatically changed to a different key even though it was previously saved.

Thanks.

Hi Patpsc,

If I understand right from the limited information in you post, the issue you are describing typically happens with Intro-1 and End-1 programming which is chord specific. It will not sound right if you change the root chord while playing.

First step in troubleshooting will be to checkout if Var 1-4, Fill 1-4, etc. are behaving right (i.e Style notes and chords are musically correct during playing). It no issues there, then it is definitely the Intro-1 and End-1 issue. Before we get into editing Intro-1 and End-1, one temporary solution I can suggest is to complete your editing, without Intro-1 or End-1 mods. During playing, you can ignore using Intro-1 and End-1.

Second, if it turns out that Var 1-4 and Fill 1-4 are also behaving erratically, then we need more details of how you are editing the style in order to troubleshoot if it is a user issue or something with your keyboard.

Third, when programming Intro-1 & End-1, make sure you program these using the root note of the song. And when editing these from existing styles, you have to edit for the song root note and transpose Base and Acc 1-5 tracks to match the root note. It will require a few more steps, but everything will be fine after that.

Hopefully this helps.
Sincerely,

Those you describe happen if you modify/edit a factory style that has preset Into1/End1 and chord sequence.
Try to create one from scratch

Hi KauserImtiaz and Anthony,

Yes this issue is always happening in Intro because I create the Intro for the songs. This issue only occurs after I updated the 1.4.1.

To describe what I'm doing and hoping to give you more detail info of the issue, here is a summary:

- Let say that I want to create a style that is close to the original song, I select a factory style with the beat close to the song with all Vars and fills. I will create the intro and ending.

- To save time, I need only a drum track for my recording, so I copy a Var (Var1) to the Intro and delete all note events of Bass, Acc1 to Acc5. I only keep the Drum and Perc tracks, then record the intro.

- Before making a recording on a track, I make sure to have the Chord set to the root of the main key (F#m) then start to record. I transposed the keyboard to make a recording into another chord (+1 to play notes in Fm but produces notes in F#m).

This is where the issue is: When I enter the Event Edit Mode of this track (Acc1), the notes are correctly registered but it sounds incorrectly when scrolling down the time line. So I wonder what causes this issue? This issue is not existed from the previous OS 1.1, 1.3 (I'm not sure of 1.4.0).

Do not copy factory Intro1/End1 in a Style , no matter if you delete note events , track properties like Fixed / No transpose
remain in tracks plus embedded chord sequence and you have a lot of parameters to edit.
It's better to copy your custom Fill or Var in Intro1/End1 and then create your midi events in normal mode track.
Bear in mind that styles code is different under OS v.1.4.1 so only newly created styles will work properly in this aspect.
