Upper volume problem with styles off (PA700)
Hi Guys,
I've searched some similar problems over the forum, but without success...
So...
Yesterday I noticed this problem while playing with my choir.
PA700 switched on regularly, and set to default style "Brush Ballad". All knobs are in centre position. Then, I go to Kbd set to find "Piano&Strings", or any other set, and select it.
If I play normally (on 5 octaves, style and split both off) the general volume is quite low, so I'm forced to rotate volume knob up to the maximum level for having a decent output level. But if I press Start/Stop to start the style, upper volume increases dramatically! As soon as I stop the style, upper volume decreases again.
I tested other factory styles and other factory kbd sets, and problem is still present.
To temporarily face this problem, I set the limiter to +13 dB, but I just "moved" the issue because if I start any style I must turn down the master volume.
I don't have evidences of what happen with an external speaker, I just faced this issue with internal speakers.
If I switch off/on the instrument, problem is still present.
Anyone with the same problem? What would you suggest?
Fortunately the arranger works normally in all its functions, the only problem is this, but I would not like it to be an early warning of more serious problems.
Thanks guys.
Piercarlo

Are you running it with the latest OS 1.5.0?
If not, please update the keyboard as soon as possible:-

If you are at 1.5.0 then this does seem like a bug.
You could attempt a re-install of 1.5.0.
I would imagine that other PA700 owners could test this for you just to see ini t is a problem for all.
One more quick question: does this do the same through headphones?
Cheers
Pete

Hi @karmathanever
Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I'm running OS 1.5.0.
A friend of mine suggests to check some Audio In (Mic) settings in Global page.
He says that there should be a sub-page with a ratio value (i.e. 50/60) that should be set at 100.
Now I'm not at home, so I cannot check... but do you think it could make sense?
In any case, as soon as I get home I'm checking this.
(and, of course, if some PA700 owner could post his/her experience, it is higly appreciated!
)
Bye
Piercarlo

Re: Upper volume problem with styles off (PA700)
Your problem seems easy to be solved, because you obviously programmed the Balance Knob as the Volume Level of the Accompaniment Sounds only.piercarlo.azzone wrote: ..

To program the Program the BALANCE knob for standard function go to the Global > Controllers > Hand page and choose the the Accompaniment/Song– Keyboard Balance option - than press the EXIT button to close the Global page and return to the main screen.
kind regards

thanks for the message.
I don't remember ever programming the balance knob other than the default settings, but I will definitely look at it as soon as I get home.
It seems to me, however, that the effect you describe is different from what I find: in fact, the problem does not concern only the accompaniment part.
Imagine playing a piano sound over the entire keyboard, with the accompaniment turned off. To get a right volume, I have to set the Master knob to maximum.
But as soon as I start the accompaniment, the whole instrument (accompaniment + live piano sound) goes up by several decibels, forcing me to turn down the master volume.
As soon as the accompaniment is stopped (with the start / stop key) the piano sound becomes again very low in volume.
It is as if there is a trigger somewhere, which imposes an upper volume at an "x" level with accompaniment off, and at an "x + n dB" level with accompaniment on.

Re: Upper volume problem with styles off (PA700)
oops I just noticed how you solved the problem. What a relief!
Hello Piercarlo!
Here it is 2025 and I'm having exactly the same problem except with midi files! (on my 700)
When I play a midi file, the RH volume is as I like it and when the file ends, there is a sudden drop in volume.
I guess I'm wondering if you ever solved your problem.
Actually I never play styles - but I just did as an experiment and sure enough the problem is the same - sudden RH volume jump when the style starts playing. and sudden drop in volume when you shut off the style
I have a suspicion that I changed some setting, because it's only a recent problem.
