Radias question

Post by Donethur »

Hello, I would like to ask you this: I have a Radias desktop and everything works fine, nevertheless when I move the volume knob, it sounds like distortion+noise, if I stop moving it, all is OK, this noise only happens when I adjust the volume. Is this normal? Thanks!

The Radias' main volume control, and all of the other rotary controls, apart from the large Program/Value knob, consist of potentiometers. The potentiometer internal contacts and resistance track surface will oxidise over time, and can become "noisy" and produce the result described. So, in a way, it is normal for audio equipment of this age. The solution is to rotate the control back and forth a few times. As the control is rotated, the oxidation will gradually be cleared and the amount of noise should reduce with successive movements of the control. If the noise doesn't reduce, then a replacement volume control potentiometer might be required, or possibly some other components. That might be a job for a keyboard tech.
