Can the PA5X load styles direct from USB?
Converted over a few sets, however, the only way I can get them to play is to load them into a Factory USER slot to access them...can the PA5x not directly access styles from a USB?
Need to do this so I can audition styles before saving to the machine...

yes you can access them on discs or usb sticks.
- press the style window on the screen
- at the right top of the screen select the drives button
- select your usb stick and find your style location folder with the stg files (or open the kst file if you want to audition it from there)
- select the style you want
- press the style window on the screen

Pa5X can reproduce any Style/KBD SET/PAD from any storage media only if factory sound resources are used like Direct SET in Pa4X.
If custom samples are used , then all custom samples must be loaded first in the exact same Bank positions , that's why you
can't simply merge custom KST Sets and this won't ever change in any future PaSeries with same hardware architecture.

When talking about factory resources we mean Factory Sound positions , a copied Sound to User Banks is a custom Sound
and loading User Sound Bank is required else a Style track/KBD Set points to a blank position.

Re: Can the PA5X load styles direct from USB?

Is this ability to access data directly from a USB drive (without having to first load it into a USER slot) limited strictly to playing/auditioning styles? Or does it also work for directly accessing a custom keyboard set if that keyboard set uses strictly factory sound resources? I was under the impression after reading prior comments posted here on KorgForums that the PA5X was missing some direct access functionality that was present in the PA4X including the latter's ability to access keyboard sets stored on USB?

Do not compare file system of PaSeries with Pa5X !sjmarano wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 9:45 pm Antony / Qui -

Pa5X file system is just like your computer , you create a folder anywhere with any resources (except custom Sounds)
and you can edit/play/copy/save any of them no need to load them because you actually copy them while loading.
It's just like having a video in a USB stick , if you browse it you can play/edit it directly from USB drive and no need to
copy it at desktop , so when in Style play mode you can browse any Style/KBD Set/PAD even User Sounds with edited
factory resources from any external media mSD or USB drives and play them or edit directly from there ,
always talking about factory resources/samples.
As written above in case of custom samples resources , first you have to load PCM samples (with just loading SOUND folder of KST)
and then you're also able to reproduce/edit/save all custom resources of a KST folder from any external media.
Hope this helps

Re: Can the PA5X load styles direct from USB?
Thanks so much. This really does help and it's gratifying to know that the PA5X behaves essentially the same as any computer, as you stated.
