Using GS1 with second (midi) keyboard

Post by Bentuin01 »

Hi all,

As you know, the Grandstage 1 has two sound engines which you can operate separately. You can use the two engines with the GS1 keyboard in split mode but for non-piano sounds this is a sub optimal. To address this you can add a second midi keyboard (semi-weighted or synthesizer) keyboard.
To do this follow these easy steps:

1. Set the midi channel in the second keyboard to midi channel 2 (or choose you're own channel)
2. Connect the midi-out of the second keyboard with the midi-in of the GS1 (with a 5 pin midi cable)
3. Go in to the system menu of the GS1 en scroll to Midi Channel (check if the GS1 is set to another channel than the second keyboard).
4. Scroll to "Midi Channel Mode and select: "U/L Individual"
5. Scroll to "Midi Channel (Lower)" and select channel 2 (or the you're own choice from point 1) than exit System mode.
6. Put the GS1 in Split-mode
7. Hold the split button and press the lowest key on the keyboard to set the split to the lowest key. This reserves the GS1 keyboard for the second (right) sound engine and reserves the second keyboard for the left sound engine.

You should now hear the left engine on the second keyboard and the right engine on the GS1 keyboard,

The GS1 is still a very good keyboard, so hope you enjoy this solution,

Thanks to "Splinters" for inspiring me to add this item,

Goodluck,

Ben
