KORG N1R, Multimode Issue when sequencing

I am having a problem assigning sounds to "Parts" when in Multimode on my N1R and have a question which is a bit hard to explain...
When I add an initial "Part" in Multimode (e.g. Part 01), there always seem to be other parts that already have sounds assigned to them (maybe Part 03, 05, 07, etc).
My question; Is it possible to start a new Multimode session where there are no sounds assigned to any of the 16 parts? OR, is there an easy way to delete the parts I don't want? The manual is not real clear to me. Any help is appreciated! Regards, Rae.
