Korg Krome 2 ?
Will there be Korg Krome 2? Who knows?
If they were to, what form would it take?
Elsewhere there was idle speculation about a workstation that was basically Gadget, with hardware controls. I think that that would make a lot of sense, on many grounds:
First, KORG already has the code. Some updates may be necessary, but the foundation is there. It has already been ported to different architectures, so we know that it's feasible.
Second, it's a visible advance on the current rompler-only Krome structure.
Third, the technology is there to make a nice touchscreen that is a clear advance on the current Krome touchscreen.
Fourth, the physical hardware is something with which KORG is intimately familiar, so there's no production issue there.
Alternatively, we could read the tea leaves around Krome update 1.0.4 and guess that they are prepping the same engine in a new shell, which would quite honestly be typical for KORG - perhaps with slightly higher voice counts, and maybe with a return of audio recording (although I doubt it).
If we're lucky, they'll produce a new Kronos and their new Krome will come out at the same time, intending to rely on the Kronos replacement's halo effect to drive sales.

Here's hoping they bring back all the good features that they dropped from Krome that existed in the Triton LE and TR 88.
They need something cheaper than Kronos but full featured, with a better sequencer, and bring back sampling, but modernized, with multi samples that users can create and assign per velocity, per key.
Also add a proper functional synth engine, something like the king korg. In 2019 someone shouldnt have to buy a flagship synth to get virtual analog and sampling in a mid market keyboard.

I'm keeping my Kross 2! One would expect that they had included features from the cheaper model, but sampling, usb audio, audio player, audio in are all missing yet.
The Kross 2 is the thing now. I expect they'll release the long awaited expansion libraries this month
