Bachus: just to be clear, I am quite comfortable using computers as well (sunvox is my favourite software for the purpose, but not the only choice). My problem with them in the workflow is when shifting from hardware to computer or vice versa.

Now, if Krome 2 were to show up with Gadget embedded for the sound engines, I would definitely want some of that action.

There is no reason to embed them,
As long as there is full workflow integration between the 2 devices..
MEaning a very natural way to controll the gadgets and sequencer from the keyboard, as well as the keyboard being a very low latency audio interface and mixer for the gadget sounds..
except for using the ipad screen, everything else will feel like the sounds and sequencer are actually in the keyboard..

The great power of the Korg lately is to continue betting on the WS, from an arranger to a sinte middle or low range, gives you all the options. That's why I criticize Roland and now Yamaha for killing the WS, for preserving the sequencers and trying to force us to external soft. The truth is that if I leave a Krome2 this remains a complete mid-range WS without limitations, at the same time that provides connectivity to these external applications, but does not fall into the subtraction of tools that have benefited users so much.

I might be fighting the future.

But subtraction of expected tools is a bad idea for an expensive {+$1500) keyboard or W/s

Lets kick around the SEQ. Lets guess 20% of owners play with the SEQ .

It would be a mistake to piss off 20% of loyal owners who enjoy that feature/tool.

Its worth the extra $50 to include it in a successor product.

Kicking around a hypothetical here.

Agreed. In my view, the full-blown workstation is KORG's differentiating product at this point. Aside from Kurzweil, Akai Professional and (with some reservations) Casio it's a rare thing. Kurzweil hasn't been doing much new recently in that line, and Casio's still (rather unfairly) being treated as a toy company. Akai's offerings are somewhat specialised and idiosyncratic.

It will be interesting to see if Korg can deliver a competitor with the modx and the expected Roland FA replacement?

If Korg wont move away from the terrible EDS or whatever this engine is there Will be no reason to upgrade any instrument to a new Korg synth.

No reason, demonp? No reason whatsoever, in any dimension?

Brave words, those.

But aside from that, what's so terrible about EDS? It's a fairly standard, well-understood, flexible, efficient multisampling engine with incremental layer switching, automation and effects. What would you rather have? A virtual modular? If you think EDS is opaque, just wait until you have a crowd of customers whining about how they put in a VCO and can't hear anything.

But aside from that I can envision plenty of upgrades that build on EDS, and still make the platform stronger. For example, allow for a wavetable rather than just a sample. 4 digital oscillators rather than 2. Easy multisampling of sources.

Really, I think you're terribly overstating your case.

Don't like EDS?
That's surprising as it's quite an advanced sound engine. KORG are using EDS-X on their current Arrangers such as the Pa4X which is extremely advanced. It has something like 24 OSC's per sound.

Their EDS-X engine on arrangers also has RX and DNC technology which is mighty powerful. It's sort of like what Scripts do for Kontakt.

Wow great catch.. Bye Bye Krome... It's about time. Hopefully the keyed is improved with the power of the Kronos. For $1299 to be price competitive to Yamaha.

2 weeks until Namm. Ive been enjoying my YAMAHA MODX6 . I always buy Korg Flagships since 1989 but this last delay had me buy a different brand. You know when you have the itch to buy something new. I hope what they are about to release blows me away to sell my Yamaha. I haven't turned on my Kronos in weeks. Lol
