Fellow Kronosians and Kronosianettes,
I teetered about whether or not to buy any more samples for my already very rich Kronos 1, and decided to pull the trigger ("New KRONOS Sound Pack") with the Black Friday deals.
All good except it looks like my 27GB SSD only has 3.7GB left. I think I can clear up some of the free samples data (then re-add them later), but it might be easier to just add a second SSD.
My question/assumption is this:
(note: I am backing up regularly now so hopefully won't paint myself in a corner.)
1. I can add a second SSD and not worry about which SSD the samples live (as I assume they can play off either of the two sata devices).
Truth or Science Fiction?
2. If I choose the lazy path, I can just purge the 27GB SSD (other sampledatabanks I have downloaded) and I should be able to have the factory build and the "New KRONOS Sound Pack" coexist with out needing more SSD space.
Truth or Science Fiction?
3. If item 2 above is true, then I would just fill up the rest of the 27GB with some of the smaller sample data packs. I really like the EXs25 single coil guitar by KAPro.
Thanks to all!
Regards,
Greg (aka CrowNose1)

Re: Making room on 30GB SSD for Berlin D, or 2nd HD?
I am up to 27 gig on my original SSD and I am running the " New Sound Pack " on it. I have only a few other sample libs . The Berlin uses the most memory from what I recall on the Sound Pack.CrowNose1 wrote:Fellow Kronosians and Kronosianettes,

I think you have to work the #'s on your SSD and decide what you do not need anymore. If I paid money for a sample lib I would be inclined to keep it unless it was a dud.
Thats how I would approach 2)

I like that.CrowNose1 wrote:Fellow Kronosians and Kronosianettes,

I would say, go for the 2nd SSD. Its really not that bad of an install. (Sharp has a video on Youtube). I installed a second 120GB Intel SSD and have plenty of room. The prices have really come down lately. The only thing I have on the original 30GB SSD is the Preload sound set and the Version 2 of the same. I prefer to have just that only on the main SSD to make the drive last longer by it only having to read from it and not write to it very often. If my 2nd SSD dies (unlikely), its easier to just replace the 2nd SSD and not have to re-install the OS and start from scratch. And also this way gives you plenty of space to do whatever you like. Just my opinion.

Thanks for this navydave, good to know that the second SSD has worked for you.
When I posted this, I had limited time, so I just wanted to tryout my new purchase. (but I suspected it just adding the second SSD was the way to go... Already replaced the RAM).
So, I backed everything up and after purging I ended up with 12GB free (from 3.8GB). I loaded this sound pack up and confirmed that I really like the Berlin D. And now that you have confirmed that the second drive can 'stream' the content the same way the first SSD does, I am more motivated to install one. I can keep the 27GB less cluttered. Not to mention that I already have a 120GB SSD.
I can see that file management is going to be quite a task but will be totally doable with the Kronos Editor v3.
Ideally I would like to invest the time to get the sounds better organized and setlisted; but then get back to playing! Right now it seems like I have a lot of banks that are not filled. For some reason I want to 'defrag' the banks to create contigious sound slots.
Sorry to ramble, and thanks navydave!~

No probs. Be sure to check out PCG tools. That's good for organizing your sounds and setlist, etc.CrowNose1 wrote:Thanks for this navydave, good to know that the second SSD has worked for you.
